Sleep

Swadding again at six months

Well, DD's six month sleep regression has gone beyond regression, which suggests going back to a state she has been in before. This is MUCH worse than even her newborn wakings. She's waking, distressed hourly. We're all shattered.

Somebody has suggested going back to swaddling and introducing a dummy. I'm not sure about this as swaddling seems liking going backwards (she stopped swaddling at 12 weeks, on her lead), and she's never had a dummy. But frankly anything for a bit of extra kip...

I'm concerned, however, that we may just be creating problems for the future if we go down this route.

Any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated.

Hi there cocoachannel my dd is 6 months and I still swaddle for daytime naps. It's the only way I can leave her and it calms her down. If I don't she hits and rubs her face waking herself up. I'm not sure about night time sleeping, it's probably ok to do for a couple of hours - as long as you use a breathable blanket. Could you unswaddle her after a bit? As for using a dummy we've been trying to get DD to take a dummy for months but she won't. Now I think it's only something else to 'wean' her off so maybe it's a good thing!

also - could it be teething?

Thanks Sophie.

I think it is a combination of teething (her bottom two came through with little bother, but top ones seems to be causing pain), and other bits that go with being six months like learning to sit alone, weaning (wind?), learning to crawl and the beginnings of separation anxiety.

We have a babysitter this evening as it's our anniversary, so I'm loathed to try any new tonight, in case the poor sitter has a hellish few hours, but may try the swaddling for the daytime naps tomorrow!

Why dont you try a sleep sack, it is the next stage on from swaddling ?
