Does anyone swaddle for nighttime sleeps?

I wanted to swaddle DS from birth, but was advised by midwife and HV that it wasn't recommended for night sleeping, as it could be dangerous, although was okay for daytime naps (presumably because I'd be there to notice if something went wrong?). We had one of those swaddling pouches with the velcro on, but DP didn't like to see DS with his arms and legs restricted, so we stopped using it after a couple of weeks.

Now, at 3 months, his sleeping has recently become very disturbed, and from watching him sleeping, I think it's partly because he moves around a lot in his sleep, and so wakes himself up. I've started swaddling him using an ordinary blanket for daytime naps, and it does seem to make his sleep more peaceful, so I'd quite like to try it at night, too.

For those of you who do swaddle overnight, do you use a pouch, or just a blanket? Is there anything else I ought to know before doing it?

yep i still swaddle my dd, who is 8mths, have done since she was quite little, at night i use a cot sheet, those flannelete ones or a muslin cloth if its hot, it is the ONLY way she will sleep!

she only wears a vest and nappy when swaddled unless its reallly cold, then i put a blanket over her, or a babygrow.

you do have to be careful that they dont overheat, which is the concern, but i spoke to my midwife about it and she said as long as i was sensible (and she agreed i was being re clothes/layers) that it was fine.

she is my 5th baby, the boys were all swaddled when little, but grew out of it quite quickly, madame loves it.

just be careful re temperature etc and you should be fine, hope it means more sleep x

i used to swaddle DS until he could kick a blanket off by himself - can't remember where i read that?! fairly tightly when he was tiny - they feel quite secure i think - it was a cotton type swaddle thing. if it is a cellular blanket it doesn't even matter if they wriggle themselves out. i think the worry is a loose blanket / suffocation or something.
