"Wake to sleep." Anyone trying this?

Hi, I know there have been previous threads on this, but thought I would start a new one to see if anyone is trying it at the moment. My 8 month old DS wakes every morning at 5.30am. Not acceptable!! He's great at going to bed, goes straight to sleep when we put him down at about 6.45pm (have tried later bed times but makes no difference) and sleeps through but is up like clockwork at 5.30 ready to start the day, although he still seems tired. So, this morning I roused him at 4.30. He stirred, gave a little cry but didn't wake up properly. Then he was up at 5.15, so on day one it hasn't been a huge success but am going to persevere for a few more mornings now that I've started. Just wondered if anyone else is going through this at the moment or if anyone has any advice. Am desperate for a "lie-in" until after 6am!

I tried when DS was a baby. It didn't work for me at all as I found it so stressful having to wake up to wake him up IYSWIM, DS is 6 and regularly still wakes up at 5 or 5.30. :(
