Sleep

Cut out which feed first?

My dd is 11 weeks and is a pretty good sleeper. She's asleep in her cot at 7pm, dh gives her a dream feed at 11pm and then she'll normally wake around 4 when I feed her again. Next feed is between 6-7 and she will normally sleep for an hour or 2 after this. She is ebf. Dh is finding the dream feed exhausting as he gets up early for work.
I had previously been concerned about the varying amount of daytime sleep she gets but this doesn't seem to affect her nights. (I always give her the opportunity for 3 daytime sleeps.)
Ideally we'd like to ultimately get her sleeping from 7-7 but aren't sure how to approach this and would be grateful for any suggestions.
Obviously we'd like to eventually get her sleeping

I wouldn't cut any feeds before 6 months when she is well established on food.

You could always just stop doing the dreamfeed and let her wake herself when she's hungry, or do the dreamfeed earlier.

I agree that it may be a little early to think about cutting feeds out. From about four months I would bring the 11pm feed forward to 10 and try to wake baby up so she has a good feed rather than a dream feed. Then the early hours waking should lessen by itself - or move closer to 6 or 7am ideally.

I would not reccomend cutting out feeds until after 6 months. With my dcs I have encouraged them to sleep well at night and made little fuss at waking. After 6 months you can then try offering water in the early hours but keep the 10pm feed. Reduce the 10 pm feed from 8 to 9 months when your dd is established with solid food.

that was my plan and kind of worked with all four of mine.

Thanks for the tips. Logically I see the 4am and 6/7am feeds becoming just 1 feed, as the 4am one used to be around 2am and since we stopped waking her to feed it has gradually got later. This has coincided with her now taking 5oz at the dream feed and moving into her own room - I think she was getting too big for the Moses basket. Will carry on as we are for now and let Dd drive any changes over the next month or so.

My DD over the course of a week when she was 12 weeks old moved her night feed from 3 to 4 to 4.30 to 5.30 then just stopped waking and was sleeping 10.30 til 7. We then dropped the dream feed at about 22 weeks, just before starting to ween. Ever since she's slept 7 til 7.

Think there isn't much we can do to make them do nothing, they will sleep longer when they want
