Sleep

Will it get better when he starts walking?

DS is 8mo and takes ages to sleep and doesn't nap for over half an hour unless we stay by him, patting and shushing him.

He is learning to walk and to crawl - drags himself (commando crawling) around the house and has learnt how to crawl on hands and knees 2 days ago. He pulls himself standing and for a few days, has been standing holding himself with only one hand. He looks like he is going to give his first steps by himself soon (I mean, in the next month, maybe).

He has only two teeth, which appeared over 2 months ago, and no sign of others.

Sometimes he's sleeping and starts to move his legs as if he's walking. Sometimes he pulls himself on hands and knees and wakes up in the process.

He also moves a lot between sleep cycles, which apparently wakes him up. He also wakes several times in the night (specially between sleep time and about midnight).

I have a feeling that once he has mastered the crawling and walking, things will get better and he will sleep better. Any opinions? Does it make sense?

Yes, it might. I found that mastering these kind of skills definitely played a bit of havoc with my DD's sleep, although while she was learning to crawl and pull up she was cutting teeth left right and centre, so it could have been a combination of both.

I also found that once she could stand herself up, it was a bit trickier to get her off to sleep as she wanted to practice her new skill and would stand up in the cot, so for her naps I used to put her in her pushchair, reclined back. It passed after a few weeks.

Plus once she could walk properly (which for her was about 14 months and was summer) I could take her to the park and run her about for ages, getting her nicely tired out for a nap.

hi strawberrie, thanks for responding! It's good to know it'll get better.

He jumps up the minute he's put to bed, so the only way to make him fall asleep is on the sling.

I'm looking forward for him to be able to run in the park :-) at the moment he is practicing his new skills in his sleep as well, and sometimes he is awaken by his own moves...
