Sleep

DD2 doesn't sleep in the evenings. Is this normal?

DD2 (12 weeks) just doesn't go down to sleep in the evenings. She will feed on and off, have a micro nap on me but wake if I try to put her down. She's not unhappy, just awake. My friends babies all seem to go down at 7 so I am feeling pretty abnormal. Can't remember how things were with DD1. Think she slept in the evening (though in a basket with us) but I didn't do anything different.

Should I be doing more to encourage her? She usually settles down at about 11.30 and sleeps till 6ish then usually another sleep for a couple of hours.

I remember having similar problems in the early months with DS. He never slpet in the evenings, would literally nap on nd off on me all day (and night!) and would wake and cry if I put him down. He just wanted to feed or be held it seemed!

Can't tell you when this changed, just that it did, their slep patterns change and he suddenly became really overtired and hyper after 7pm, so we knew he needed to be asleep around then.

You will be able to pick up on her cues eventually which will make it easier.

Oh, I chose to block out hearing about those Disney babies that sleep from 7pm - 8am, I still don't believe they genuinely do!

Thanks for the reply. Just need a bit of a break in the evenings (well, any time really - doesn't sleep great in the day either, wants to sleep on me).

It's a good stint at night, but 6 is an awkward time for her to wake up as by the time she is back to bed it's 7, not enough time for me to go back to bed, or if I can, we are late getting up for nursery etc. She was waking at 7.30 which was perfect! Not sure what changed.
