10 week old DS unsettled in cotbed...

My DS has outgrown his moses basket we are now putting him to bed in his cotbed in our room. He has gone from waking once a night in his moses basket to waking every hour and a half in the cotbed. He just seems generally unsettled. I think part of the problem is that he moves about so much - he starts off the night with his feet at the bottom of the cot but ends up at the other end of the cot facing the wrong way etc. He wears a grobag as he tends to kick his blankets off even if they are tucked into the mattress. He also keeps putting his arms through the bars so wakes himself doing this and ends up in all sorts of weird and uncomfortable positions with his head contorted against the cot bars. Can anyone suggest anything which might make the transition from moses basket to cotbed easier and give any tips on ways in which I might be able to keep him a bit stiller if you see what I mean? Many thanks!

Hi I'm having the same problem with my 11 week old daughter, last night I tried her in the cot bed and she woke up more often. She also moves around a lot at night and my worry is that she may roll over and not be able to breath. I'm hopeing someone will come a long soon with some advice as it would be quite interesting to see what over people do.

A cot bumper might stop him getting his arms stuck through the bars.

But I'm afraid IME it's just one of those transitions you have to ride out

I had the same problem with my LO, its understandable when they are so used to be in an enclosed space and all of a sudden they are in a huge cot bed. I was scared to use a cot bumper and soft toys etc because of the SIDS risk but what worked for us was using a breathable cot bumper, we have this one www.safedreams.co.uk, it covers all four sides and makes the cot into a kind of giant moses basket. Stops LOs from getting their arms and legs stuck. Might be worth a try?

My wee one was exactly the same. He went from sleeping happily in the moses basket to waking up every 90 mins in his cot. I ended up rolling up some towels/blankets on either side of the cot to make a little 'nest' down the middle and then covered them tightly with the soft sheet he had be used to in the moses blanket. It's really soft! Rather than continue with the grobags, i ended up swaddling him as his arms were all over the place and this was waking him up. I'm still swaddling at 16 weeks although he usually escapes when he wakws for a feed but at least he's sleeping for anything up to 4/5 hours, sometimes 6 before a feed :o

This has worked really well for us. I have his cot right next to my bed so i can add or remove cellular blankets through the night as required in this crazy cold weather.

Hope tis helps a little.
