I think you can carry on swaddling a bit longer, TBH. But we weaned off the swaddle by putting DS in a grobag and then just swaddling only his arms with a thin stretchy blanket - pretty soon he wriggled free and we put it on looser and looser and then lost it altogether - took about 2 weeks.

Growbag, great idea! Will look ds1 old ones out for ds2 and see how that goes. Thanks for reminiding me about them! Especially now the weather colder.

I swaddled until my DD was rolling over - about 4 months I think. I was really dreading giving it up because she always had a really strong startle reflex and would constantly wake herself up, but actually it wasn't too bad. We just put her straight into a grobag thing and although she did wake herself a few times the first few nights, she settled better than I could have hoped!

I swaddled my DS1 until he was 11 months!! He just could not sleep unless he was wrapped up.

I would have kept going, but I was too scared to after she rolled onto her front. Swaddling is the best - if we have another, they'll be in the wrap straight away. We only discovered it at about 3 weeks with this one, and they were the most exhausting 3 weeks of my life!

I swaddled my twins until 6 months, and they loved it, and there was no difference in sleep when we put them in grobags. We did put a rolled up blanket around them though in case they rolled - but you can get special thingies now to keep them in the same position.

We had a woombie and it was great - the only one we wouldn't have to re-do in the middle of the night.

I used this which is available in a larger size to suit older babies.

I'm still swaddling my 22 week old. I have one of the blankets that cupofcoffee linked too. DD is actually still a bit small for the large size so i had to sew on extra velcro. I don't see her growing out of it for ages. I got it in TK Maxx

Bumper when dd was newborn we just used a cellular blanket to swaddle her. There are lots of videos on youtube showing you how.
