Nontoxic Sun 01-Mar-09 17:26:27

I ski-ed at half term for the 3rd cosecutive year. I'm 45. DH is 48 and also learned two years ago.
A friend who was already a skier took up snowboarding a few years ago in his mid 40s.
Mind you, it's taken over a week for my hips to feel normal again.

I'm 37 and intend to be riding as long as there's life in me... I learned when I was 18, glad I did as prob wouldn't have the balls to do it now!

DH and I had a two hour snowboarding lesson on our recent hol. We are both 40!

It's bloody hard though!

Reesie Tue 03-Mar-09 21:50:14

My father in law in 76 and is still skiing well every year!

Rebeccaj Fri 13-Mar-09 10:50:29

DH is 40 this year and still an avid off-piste boarder. I prefer the apres-ski!

snowmummy Thu 23-Apr-09 18:19:19

Also pushing 40 and still riding.

Have absolutely no intention of giving up and I am hoping that we'll be able to go away more often as the DCs get older. In the meantime, we are making do with a week away each year and as much dome riding as we can fit in

i am 35,boarded for 10 yrs and have recently defected to skiing as i feel it will be easier with small children. But is it? anyone taken a 4 yr old on a button lift whilst on a snowboard?

alypaly Thu 10-Sep-09 11:57:01

taken a 13 year old on a lift and between us we nearly broke each others legs when dismounting off the chair lift

madwomanintheattic Thu 10-Sep-09 19:03:49

mil is going to learn to board this season - she's 65 and has been skiing since tiny. groovy grannies rock grin

we bought her snowblades for her birthday grin

alypaly Thu 10-Sep-09 23:07:03

good on her...get the plaster of paris ready,i nearly broke my legs when i tried it and got 10 out of 10 for a backward flip when out of control on a red run!!!!!!!!grin

madwomanintheattic Sat 12-Sep-09 05:43:28

did that once going backwards over an unexpected ridge... fortunately no damage, although everyone who saw it was convinced i was badly injured as neither i nor the girl who stopped to help me up were moving... but we were totally incapacitated with laughter, nothing else grin

although this year, i've taken up ice hockey... the chances of me making it to the end of the ski season are fairly remote, i fear...

WriggleJiggle Sat 12-Sep-09 06:23:18

A couple we know are 60+ and boarding shock

Sixer Sat 03-Oct-09 22:50:38

DC on a drag on skis, whilst you're on a board.. They'll be flying ahead of you, even at 4, believe me. I've been boarding for...13yrs... DP a little more. We have 2 ds 8 & 5. Really wanted them to learn to ski first (It's easier,4 edges rather than 2), balance is easier also. DS1 last season aged 7 we dropped on a board for 1 day... he was flying, got it straight away, was such a natural and very bloody annoying. There was no fear.

WibblingDad Thu 08-Oct-09 10:11:05

We had a guest who started skiing at 70 and switched to boarding at 76. Absolute star. Also cycled the 15 miles to our office to drop in his booking form and deposit cheque a few years ago.

My Mum skis considerably more each winter at 63 than I do at 36 - most unfair!

deste Mon 19-Oct-09 19:53:54

Still Skiing at 59. Mind you have had a 14 year gap. Having loys of fun buying new gear.

mylovelymonster Mon 19-Oct-09 20:01:33

Kiwinyc Fri 23-Oct-09 14:49:21

It'll be me cos I'm planning to learn to snowboard this Xmas age 43. God i can't believe i wrote that down.

I always wanted to try when i was younger but never went back near the slopes after damaging my knee learning to ski when i was 16. But now my 6yo (and maybe my 3yo) will be out there with DH and i don't want to be left out. I'm sure they will enjoy seeing me going tits over arse while i'm learning!

Am saving up for the padded bum protector and wrist guards now! grin

Wish me luck!

Sunshinemummified Fri 23-Oct-09 14:59:03

DH and I are 39 and board - although I am rubbish and a total scaredy cat grin
