Ski and snowboarding

Hi all,

I have read quite a few posts on a similar theme but wanted to ask some specifics around Morzine.

We have the opportunity to take 4 weeks off work next year (2022) and we would love to spend 4 weeks living in the resort both for the skiing and for the experience. Our little girl will be 1.5 years old by then and I wanted to ask:

  1. Any advice on this situation i.e. skiing will not be enjoyable knowing you need to get back for the little one - being honest as she is our first we do not know what a 1.5-year-old would be like in this situation
  2. Any recommendations for nanny vs childcare
  3. Book it on my own (nanny/ childcare/ accommodation) vs going through Marc Warner and other companies?

Any help/ advice will be greatly appreciated. This is something we have always wanted to do but we would like to go into it with our eyes open.

I was going to suggest you post on snowheads but see you already did! You will get loads of useful intel on there. I would definitely go it alone for that kind of trip - I think you would get tired of a tour operator set up being out there for a month and going it alone will help you hand pick everything.

I did two weeks when one of mine was a similar age; he settled fine with the nanny each time and she knew all the local places to take him for fun times. Your own nanny will also give you flexibility to negotiate your own arrangement (and fee) rather than being stuck with a rigid one imposed by a tour op.

Wow I’m really jealous, have a great time!! I really regret not doing similar but now I have teens I think it will more likely be them doing the season not me!

There are a few companies who do the whole package with accommodation and childcare like VIP SKI and Chilly Powder. I am nanny who is based in Morzine and have worked for a few childcare companies in the area. I do tend to find that if you use these companies for more than a week they become very expensive. I would go down the DIY route and book everything separately.

There are lots of companies who provide private nannies and kids club style childcare. I would personally go down the private nanny route as they can be flexible and they come to your accommodation and work around your childs routine. The nanny would provide toys and do lots of fun activities like sledging and arts and crafts. If you wanted to stay out skiing but wanted to check and see how your child was doing then a nanny could meet up with you on the mountains. Kids clubs style childcare can be good if you want your child to be around kids of the same age but they are not always as flexible. You may have to go to a childcare facility to drop off your child which could be stressful and you would need to bring all the stuff you need for the day and there may only be certain times when you pick up and drop off.

Companies like White Properties and Re/max Lacoutete offer great value long term accommodation.
If you would like to book childcare or have any questions then don't hesitate to message me. Please check out my nanny website altitudenannies.co.uk/

We used the crèche in morzine one year when we self catered with a 6 month old but only for a week. It was ok but not as warm as a smaller setting and we only did half days. And now we go to Chilly Powder which is lovely but £££. And while nice fir a week would be a bit claustrophobic for longer. I would organise an apartment and a nanny. So so jealous. That is my dream.

What an amazing opportunity. For that many weeks i would book an apartment / chalet, self cater or eat out and get a private nanny to come to you each day.
Staying with a tour operator is likely to get tiresome after a couple of weeks. But you could mix it up. Do 2 weeks self cater and then 2 weeks in a catered chalet.

What ever you do you are bound To have an amazing time!.
