I'm about to book a sneaky weekend in Cham 15th December - just waiting to see if there's a bit more snow. Will probably do a week in January and have a group week booked in St Anton at the end of Feb. Can't wait.

Good to see you back lovetoskimum.

We've got a week SC booked in Italy over New Year and a week in Tignes at half term.

Can't wait. Winter is coming.. Grin

Hi Lovetoski I was wondering where you were! Glad to hear all is well.

I've got 5 days with my friends in Val D beginning of March - a UCPA bargain. Then Easter in Whistler with the DH and DD's. I can't wait.

I've hurt my toe arthritis so I can't run, which is really annoying, but hopefully I'll be fighting fit for March or I'll get kicked out of the fast group Grin

It's been a long summer with only this board to satisfy my ski interest obsession

I'm going on my first ever family ski holiday this year. So lurking for tips on managing the kids! Very excited to be skiiing again though.

We’ve on countdown 6.5weeks!! Massive gamble this year going first week of school xmas hols but going high and to Austria so hope there is snow!! Be interesting to see how kids cope with longer lesson times as there was no half day option so I’ve just booked 4days for youngest as I think she will get tired doing 2x2hr lessons.

I am pleased to see all your familiar faces.

Sadly though, having damaged my second knee at Feb 1/2 term, and having surgery in April, neither of my knees now feel up to skiing this season Sad

Am hoping after a year’s rest I may be able to resume dry skiing next year with a view to booking for Winter 2019.

Have booked a Caribbean holiday instead to cheer myself up Grin

Oh blimey Pesto. I assume you're being a good patient and doing all your rehab exercises. ... the Caribbean will help the emotional pain Grin

Turkey my best tip is prepare for lots of faffing! Take everyone a kit bag sainsburys shopping bag get into a routine of putting all the shite everything for each DC in it for the morning and then allow a lot of time to mobilise!

PestoSwimissimos · 31/10/2017 21:02

Yes am diligently doing everything I can to stay mobile, and am sure the warm Caribbean Sea with plenty of snorkelling & Hobie Cat-ing will make up for the lack of snowy action this year 😀

turkey kids tire easily if young, mini haribo packet in their pocket helped along with a piece of paper with their name, age, language, your mobile no. Etc, for safety if in ski school. Allow more time to exit in the morning! Lots of layers to get on, we walked my 5yr to ski school in her moon boots which I then kept in my backpack whilst I skied so she didn’t have to walk far in her ski boots Smile
If in self catering consider what you could take with you. We spent a fortune on basics this year as the exchange rate was 1:1 it felt a lot more expensive food shopping than previous trips! We are going to try take a bag of basics this year at xmas eg pasta, tea bags etc

Easter has been decent in recent years - better than the start of the season.

I know!!! She’s off to Meribel Envy

Thing is, I don’t think I could just whizz over to see her & notski. Perhaps my knees might be up to it by the end of the season.... Hmm Grin

Oh Pesto! I remember you hurting your knee!! Was it ACL? Might be doable with a good brace? How's the rehab going?

Report
dontcallmethatyoucunt · 31/10/2017 22:00

Certain I'm sure if you've gone high it'll be fine ... dare I ask where?

Pesto Meribel? A season?

Report
CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 31/10/2017 22:33

It's Les Deux Alpes. Not been there before - it does have a glacier...

But we were in Tignes at easter last year and the memory of the snowline moving inexorably up the valley is now overiding all those happy thoughts of late spring powder which I had previously been happily entertaining Confused

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 31/10/2017 22:35

April!

APRIL!!

I blame the bloody exchange rate - it's SO expensive this season.

Report
PestoSwimissimos · 31/10/2017 22:50

You’ll be fine Certain, Les Deux Alpes is a lovely resort & the glacier at the top is open all summer. You just probably won’t be able to ski all the way down to the resort though.

Massistar I can walk about ok, but neither of my knees is ‘right’ if you see what I mean. I previously partly tore my right ACL in Courmayeur many years ago & it was fine. However, since I completely tore my left ACL plus the cartilage earlier this year, the right knee is now also playing up. So walking now hurts. And I find stairs difficult because it’s painful. The surgery didn’t repair the ACL, just removed the damaged cartilage. So maybe with time, I just might be able to re-commence skiing again (probably at first on a dry slope) but at the moment I just can’t even consider it, even with knee braces. I just don’t think I can 💕Sad

You'll just need to enjoy the carribean this year instead.

Oh goodness Pesto I feel bad about being flippant now. You poor thing. With the state of the NHS it's hard to ask 'can't they do anything else?' Hopefully with time and diligence in your physio you'll be back.

Report
PestoSwimissimos · 01/11/2017 11:28

Oh don’t worry about that Cunty! It’s just nice to chat skiing, even if I can’t do it myself this year.

Thing is, medical advice I received was not to have full ACL repair as that would be super invasive surgery & costs double what I paid for my arthroscopy. And I would have to pay twice that again, coz I’ve got 2 bad knees now! Grrrr!!! My friend has just had his knee fully repaired (in Sept) & had waited 7 years on the NHS!!!!

Report
PestoSwimissimos · 01/11/2017 11:33

And the reason I paid to go private was the mahoosive wait I was facing to get my knee sorted. I’d already been struggling at home single-handed on crutches for 8 weeks before I was finally able to see a NHS Consultant. I was virtually housebound & unable to drive, so it was a blooming nightmare.
