Anyone done the train to Grenoble - only 6hrs - cheaper, faster, greener than flying

I assume you're hiring ski kit when you get there?
Don't know about that price, but went to Grenoble 13 years ago via train and it was fab! We overnighted in Lyon on the way. I would love to go back, but that was in summer. Sounds daunting to bring ski wardrobe on train.

yep would hire skis etc in resort...we have 4 kids so flying is expensive and stressy - we often drive but this looks to be nearly cheaper when crossing, tolls, petrol etc is added in would hire a car at Grenoble tho so would have to cost that in but it sounds very civilsed

not been in Grenoble specifically but we always go on the train to the French Alps (family of 4) Kids are older so able to pull luggage and we are very disciplined packers - having said that we s/c normally too and take a bunch of stuff with us like porridge oats, frozen meals for the first night etc. we don't have own skis tho which may be a stretch, own boots only and we hire all the kids stuff eg helmets in resort.

We allow an hour to get across Paris tho in practice it is quicker, and take a packed lunch with us, running out to buy bread at the Gare de Lyon.

Last year we were too late booking so had to drive - DH hated it but i quite liked the feeling of throwing everything in - if you pack large getting it into a managable number of bags will be the challenge. We are usually on two large pull along bags, two ski bags and the DC take a rucksack each. Overall prefer the train and will try and do it again this year. Agree airports stressful and often miles from the resorts!

Sure you know this but the holiday period trains get booked v v quickly so watching the websites is key, Seat 61 is your friend.
