scuse my ignorance, but when people message 'bump' - what does it mean?

Whizzz Sat 13-Aug-05 20:03:11

It means it 'bumps' the message back up to the active conversations (ie the ones you see in the list on screen)

don't worry mommie... took me ages to work that one out and when I did ....

WigWamBam Sat 13-Aug-05 20:11:54

You don't have to type "bump", though ... any post will bring the message back up.

Lonelymum Sat 13-Aug-05 20:16:10

Mommie, to understand bump you have to first understand there is an active conversations board where the 60 most recent threads to have posts on are shown.

The word bump, or any other word, will put that thread to the top of the board to bring it to the attention of every one using the active convo board.

doesn't it mean "bring up my post"?

Lonelymum Sat 13-Aug-05 20:25:18

Does it?

Tommy Sat 13-Aug-05 20:38:00

I'm sure I read that somewhere

MarsLady Sat 13-Aug-05 20:40:29

learning all the time.

stingo Sat 13-Aug-05 20:41:10

yes it means bring up my post

Lonelymum Sat 13-Aug-05 20:45:37

so I am using the word post incorrectly then. I thought a post was a bit of writing added to a thread and a thread was a conversation. Bump should be Bumt if that were the case!

henshake Sat 13-Aug-05 21:17:13

So 'scuse the thick one here but what does bring up my post mean?

If some one just wants it on the active conversation list then surely all they need to do is make a comment?

beetroot Sat 13-Aug-05 21:18:47

Message withdrawn

Lonelymum Sat 13-Aug-05 21:19:27

Henshake, yes you are right, but if they have nothing particular to add, they say bump.

WigWamBam Sat 13-Aug-05 21:33:56

henshake, sometimes there's no comment to be added, but you might want other people to see the thread. There's no point in adding another comment if all you want is to bring the thread back into active again.

When someone was ill recently, we kept the thread bumped up so people would see. When someone has put a call out for someone else, they bump the thread up for that person to see ... and so on.

Thanx all, just new to this game & on a v.steep learning curve.

Even steeper as tried & I think I have, after a couple of hours, got something for sale on ebay. That confused the living daylights out of me.

very helpful. So it stands for Bring Up My Post - brilliant. Will never forget it now.
