A tip for people struggling to post links

If you find that you keep making mistakes typing in links, here is something to help:

1 At the bottom of the thread there is a yellow box. Highlight the bold </strong> link{url\description} then use the mouse to drag it into your message (no need to cut and paste).

2 Open up another window (File, New Window) and go to the site to which you want to link.

3 Click on the url and it will be highlighted.

4 Do Edit, Copy or else hit CTRL C.

5 Go back to the Mumsnet window and your message. Highlight the word url and do Edit, Paste or else hit CTRL V.

6 Highlight the word description and overtype the description.

Bob's your uncle.

If you're not sure of yourself, click on Preview conversation to check the link.

I'm not a very clever on computers, I know the basics but thats about it! But, I can do links so it is easy!

This is how I do them:

Have 2 windows open (mumsnet and the one you want to do the link for)

type \link{

go to the page you want to link and right click in the adress box and select copy.

Come to the mumsnet window and after the { right click and select paste.

After that, type \ followed by whatever name you want to give your link. I usually just type here but it can be whatever you want. If you want a space between words, use _ instead of a space.

Give it a few trys and remember to preview before you post to make sure it works.

Okay Fimbo, I'll humiliate myself and tell you how I do it

I print out the web page I want to link to so that I have got the web address reference at the bottom of the printed out page, and then I painstakingly copy type the address for example "www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=threadid1234 - etc, etc" (after of course typing in \link{

I bet I'm not the only thicko!

HMC don't be , I only learned how to do it, with help from Giraffeski and Tammybear, in fact I think I hi-jacked their thread!! I couldn't make head nor tail of the mumsnet directions in the box.

Well done BigLips

Sorry, just the BBC news above. I copy the whole of the bottom line in the yellow box and change the url bit to whatever I want, so this thread will be here

Spacecadet put it much more simply than I did!

Yeah, it does sound complicated, but once you get the hang of it it's easy and you're much less likely to make mistakes than if you try to type \link{etc.
