She is soooooo an MNer. She has us down pat, and was bang on about the MSM's horror at discovering that women of young children hold strong views.

Hello India!

what did she say then?

Ah right. It's good to hear someone pontificating about MN who actually appears to know something about it. (Apart from Justine of course )

Um, from memory she said: MN is a fantastic thing and should be knighted (uhuh), lots of women with strong views causes horror among mainstream media who can only cope with us by characterising us as harridans.

Tanya Byron was on too but she didn't say we were marvellous. It's about 15 mins into today's episode if you're an iPlayer type.

What is the MSM?

Report
holidaywonk · 30/12/2009 12:13

MSM = mainstream media (ie telly, radio, newspapers as opposed to web-based media like blogs, talkboards, Twitter etc)

I am another huge fan of India Knight. I am not at all surprised she is a fan of MN

I was a bit surprised because [don't read this bit India] I had always thought she was a slightly silly moo. I think because of the diet book and the bad novel/s.

LOL. Love idea of MN being knighted - can just see Lady Justine and Lady Carrie adjusting their ermine down the Towers...

Nh, she is fabulous. Her stuff in the Times is always a good read. I don't always agree with her but she is forthright and funny and smart without ever being a smart arse - which is not easy.

Her books always make me vicariously uncomfortable. Some early ones have awful casual use of stuff like 'retard' as insults which I am sure she must feel very odd about now.

Yes Helen - MNHQ could do with some red velvet carpeting now I come to think of it.

Have never read IK's columns, but am happy to admit to being wrong wrong WRONG.

actually the diet, while HIDEOUS and FARTY (it's atkins, basically, and no i never tried it) is a really nice wee read and quite interesting from a 'why am i STILL stuffing my face?' pov.

India Knight has since admitted that her use of certain words as insults in her early novels have made her think again since her daughter was born. Her columns and web musings! are really helpful and supportive if you have a child with special needs. Make you feel like you are not alone and also funny

That's interesting Aitch (hope you had a good Christmas). Maybe I should try it [brandy butter emoticon]

I have a vague blanket objection to diet books, but if it's an examination of emotional reasons for over-eating that's a different thing I suppose

Fif

I'm glad she has talked about it. I read one having read later stuff and it was horrible.

I find her funny but don't get any warm fuzzy 'I'm not alone' feeling. I also can never find the SN section she was going to write in the Times. But that is probably me being useless

comps of the season to you too, wonk. it's not a big po-faced examination of reasons, more 'wtf am i doing eating a bit of toasted cheese at 11.30pm while thinking 'i must start that diet tomorrow?'' kinda thing. she's a nice writer, the right amount of bossy neatly undermined by being just as useless as the next man.

Have you outed yourself and they haven't noticed?

Or should I adjust my tinfoil hat?
