Just for clarification please?

As I understood it, we can still swear in posts - but not in thread titles, and we're discouraged from using the more offensive swear words in our nicknames.

But I could be wrong ...

ok in posts (within reason)
not ok in nicknames

Swearings part of life. Don't see the need for a load of preciousness over it. Unless it's directed at me of course

Hi there. We don't censor for swearing but if a nickname is deemed to be particularly offensive then we may drop you an email and ask, very politely, that you change it

I'm not sure how much more offensive some nicknames could be (though personally I'm not bothered) and it is wonderful to see a forum where swearing is not censored whatsoever (though of course, personal attack is not acceptable).

So many systems have busybodies or fixed rules that even well-known abbreviations like WTF could cause a user to be banned.

In the past (until I was about 45) I hardly ever swore, but because of a change of circumstances (which makes HMRC enemy number 1) and a few foul-mouthed friends I have to admit that I now swear more often (out of earshot of others) about more trivial matters where in the past it would take a lot to anger me enough to consider a swear word appropriate.

Guess I'm getting to be a grumpy old man!

You are allowed to swear in thread titles but it would be really nice if you didn't. Especially in capitals.

In posts, pretty much anything goes though.

I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid at "Bloody Halifax" though the current thread did make me look twice at the rather awful title (and having had my home repossessed by Halifax, and them losing my mother's will, thus causing significant nuisance, without any acknowledgement they have done so, I'm hardly out to 'defend' them)

WebDude Sat 17-Oct-09 11:47:34

That should be "current thread title" of course!
