Of course we are.

I am so baffled by this.

All that happened is MNHQ came on and asked people to please think twice before using offensive words, particularly the c-word, in their posting names.

That is all.

Then KA-BOOM!*?^%$£"!, it all went a bit bonkers.

StealthPolarBear Wed 30-Sep-09 18:15:03

was that after the DM stuff?
riven shock - I always thought you were such a polite lady!! wink

GrimmaTheNome Wed 30-Sep-09 18:15:32

What consitutes a swear word then (thinking of AnyFucker and all the fanjo/nork names)

I know there was once (perhaps more than once) a thread consisting entirely of swear words starting with A and working through to Z.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 30-Sep-09 18:18:42

ahem <polite cough>, if I could just refer you to our Talk policy:

"It's not our policy to delete swearwords but we do draw the line at obscenity, so, if you're not sure which side of the line your swearword of choice may fall, it might be best not to use it."

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 30-Sep-09 18:19:05

Stealth - it was after someone namechanged to cuntwhacker and started posting all over the board the other night. She was obviously a regular just doing it for attention. Some people reported her posts.

No, bibbitybobbityhat, MNHQ banned a poster for having a particular swear word in her posting name

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 30-Sep-09 22:04:31

Fanjy - I saw you saying that on a thread yesterday. Did they? I don't believe it. Do I have to accept its true just because you say it is? Unless I have evidence infront of me I'm afraid I just cannot buy that.

cornsilk Wed 30-Sep-09 22:06:23

Did they actually ban the poster? Bit harsh.

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 30-Sep-09 22:17:34

I really do want to know if they banned the poster fanj. It is a really important point. I guess you must have a good reason for making that accusation, but what is it?

BecauseImWorthIt Wed 30-Sep-09 22:19:12

I don't wish to stir things up any more, honestly, but what exactly is the difference between a swear word and an obscenity?

smallorange Wed 30-Sep-09 22:21:20

I'm really fucking confused now

fanjolina Wed 30-Sep-09 22:21:34

Bibbity - the poster who namechanged is a friend-of-a-friend. She told my friend that MNHQ withdrew her posting priveleges.
(Although she has now been allowed back as she namechanged willingly)

HelenMumsnet can confirm I am sure.

cornsilk Wed 30-Sep-09 22:21:58

An obscenity makes your lips form an involuntary cat's bum.

Kerrymumbles Wed 30-Sep-09 22:24:33

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

fanjolina Wed 30-Sep-09 22:27:08

Just double-checked with friend who knows her. Not only were posting priveleges withdrawn but her registration was suspended so she couldn't log in.

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 30-Sep-09 22:27:47

If that is true Fanje then I am shock.

fanjolina Wed 30-Sep-09 22:30:07

the irony being that the only person to ask her to change her name was Mumblebum on this thread. Which CW was in the process of doing (having received the request from an MNer) when she got banned.
