How will the proposed private rooms work?

In the light of the DM stuff, I imagine MNHQ will be looking to get the private rooms sorted out quickly. So I wondered how they would run? Will it be a case of a single user opening a room and then inviting people to join them? Or will it be possible to request an invite?

How will you avoid narnia type incidents?

(I think they are a good idea btw, and should go a long way towards addressing the concerns of people's privacy on sensitive issues).

It would have to be by invite. And limited in numbers. Otherwise it would get huge. So what would be the point?

I would have thought the obvious way would be for a poster to be able to open a room, and then invite people in. But will there be moderators present in the room? Or will you randomly moderate the rooms?

whats the point - you wont stop jounos from gettng in 0 but would have some brilliant moldiesq private cliques.

But do you think people should be able to 'see' the rooms, or request an invite, or even see who is in the room?

How will that be any different then? "I've got a problem who wants to help?" Me..Oh me.. no me please "right I will have you, you and you but not you"

How will that make any difference to privacy or anything? Any journos would just have to spend a bit of time building up a "name" and they would get invited in as often as not, the journo in question at the moment posts here freely, why would it be any different?

Won't that just start clique accusations?

I don't like the sound of it.

It's not my idea, it's MNHQ's idea!!! Just musing on how it might work, and wondering what some of the pitfalls will be. Custy, you're right, cliques will be the obvious downside. Especially if the groups aren't visible.

omg the very idea of another thing that I might not be worthy to join makes me heaves.
I will insist on one for ......peopl who smoke outside at meet ups, so at least I will be able to join that one

MNHQ - how far along have you got with the thinking on this?

I would imagine MNHQ are rocking gently in the corner, muttering to themselves...

I think MNHQ have shut up shop and gone scuba diving instead - not that I blame them of course!

Yes, I need it spelling out too, preferably in words of one syllable. I don't understand at all. Could the non-invitees have their own room to mingle and commiserate with each other?

It's giving me flashbacks to hoping you get picked for a team at PE lessons.

indeed 2shoes, the poor mnetters who aren't invited into say - the breastfeeding room or the teenagers room

the wider advice that mnetters will miss out on

how will searches go - when one wishes to search for advice and read through?

its not the best idea.

a chat facility had been talked about this waay people could talk real time with no record
=-howver it is felt that this would destroy the resource that mn is - and i would agree

what is a 'narnia type incident'?

Will we all be eating turkish delight and cavorting with lions?

AIBU could be renamed as 'Don't bother asking for an invite if you think I'm Being Unreasonable'
