Site stuff

Threads that should be banned. What's the point in them apart from annoying others? What purpose do they serve? Ban them!!

"I read this in the Daily Mail"

Threads relating to people on benefits/"poor people"

Racist threads

Sexist threads

Threads relating to others size/height

More bloody dolphin name threads.

Is it possible?? They do nothing but irritate people. Some clarity and set rules on here would be helpful, everyone is entitled to start threads but when they are started purly to annoy/upset then this is wrong.

Thanks.

I know it's bad form to start a thread about other threads but enough's enough now don't you think?

OP posts:

LuluMaman · 05/08/2009 11:40

but that is what people do talk about

stuff in the news, stuff that is controversial

if we stop discussing it, then the sexism/racism/daily mailism won;t gt challenged

and we'll all be talking about boden and how to make cupcakes

bit of stimulating debate is good

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 05/08/2009 11:43

I did yes

Its' always the same result though, they just get really annoying. I avoid but what's the use in starting inflammatory(sp?) threads that just piss people off all day?

Boden threads should be banned aswell by the way. All their clothes are shite.

aaaaaaah, i knew i knew you, as it were !!

but i think that prejudices need to be challenged constantly and robustly

and for example, i have learnt so much from these sorts of threads on MN and will continue to do so and I am damn sure lots of other people do to

I've not been avenanap for ages, I changed at christmas and became scrooged, then fluffybunny for easter. I'm not sure what to change it to now.

Don't the ruckus's (grammar??) get tedious, the same annoying threads, saying the same things, just designed to upset/annoy?

I agree with Lulu. Let them be.

Aside from anything else, often these threads can be very amusing. I am always amazed at the attitude some people have yet still think of themselves as tolerant.

What are these dolphin name threads of which you speak? I have baby names hidden, should I unhide it? Why are people naming dolphins? Do people have their own personal private dolphins?

And their isn't anything wrong with the cupcake threads thankyouverymuchlulumama

I'll add "threads that complain about what other people are posting" to that list.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 05/08/2009 12:05

The dolphin thread(s) are threads that have been started after MN started a competition to win a holiday to florida for the person that comes up with the best name for a baby dolphin. The origional thread was full within a few hours (seriously), since then several new ones have sprouted up, there were 5 different ones started yesterday IIRC.

I did say my thread was bad form soupdragon.

Why are we naming a baby dolphin?
lololol

See this is what happens when you have 80% of thread topics hidden, strange blue-peter esque happenigs occur and I am quite oblivious.

So who decides what should be censored?

What annoys you probably doesn't annoy someone else.

Report
SoupDragon · 05/08/2009 12:10

Yes, you know it's bad form yet you did it anyway. You are no worse than the dolphin lovers or Mail readers.

Wash your mouth/typing hand out soupdragon!!

I suppose it needs to be a consenus. The thread on shy people/short people (for example), there was no need for that though was there. It was purly to upset. There's no intelligent discussion, it wasn't the purpose.

Fluffy, you need to get with the hide button, and get yourself an evil-genius maniacal laugh to go with it

you know

HIDE you foolish P&T parking space, HIDE goddamn you mha ha ha ha aha

and then hit the hide with a flourish, like you are ejecting an annoying co -pilot out of the plane.

ftiiiing

and it's gone

I missed the fact that there were multiple dolphin threads. Is MN adopting a dolphin then?

Did not read the shy people one, because I don't bother opening that kind of thread unless I have a spare couple of hours ten minutes to read them.

The problem is that some people are extremely easily upset and would be requesting threads be banned left right and centre. Others are not bothered and merrily join in the ruckus.

Thanks slubber.

MN isn't adopting it, it's a competition to find it's name. Look in the competitions bit. True Mme. Maybe a section for 'threads to annoy', everyone knows what's in this section, if they are sensitive souls then they can hide the whole thing.

I love apple crumble

With custard or ice cream or cream or on it's own?

Are you eating in now or just looking at it?

You have very early apples you know, mine are all little squiddlers atm.

Sorry for pleasant crumble hijack fluffy

mmm, apple crumble. I think I have one in the freezer that my mum made with apples from our neighbours garden.

OMG, just looked at the competitions topic. There were dozens of dolphin threads. What an absolute nightmare. How on earth are they going to pick a winner? And how are they going to be sure that only one person suggested the winner? They will have to choose something strange like "Weetabix".

Bet MNHQ is sorry that they started that competition.

I love crumble so I really don't mind. Crumble and custard, yum!!!

The same person started a few dolphin ones last night. She/he put two posts on each one, both with the same names. Why???

Oh the world's gone dolphin name mad.

I'm so glad they are all hidden away from me, I would be hiding and laughing menacingly like there is no tomorrow. The dc would get anxious.

Now multiple apple crumble threads, THAT would be something worth seeing.

Or apple crumble naming threads......

Name the new Morrison's Apple Crumble and win a pass for a family of 4 to the sewage plant as seen in Come Outside (with Auntie Mabel and Pippin as your personal tour guides!) and a years supply of thread worm tablets.

Cherry pie, lucious!!

There was a post on a thread about the dolphin competition, the poster's daughter has her heart set on going to florida , she wanted to know how to enter. Methinks too many people want to win this one!

If you think a particular thread shouldn't exist you can report it.

If you don't want to read it you can hide it.

We don't want to be censored.
