What's happened to my MN? (second attempt!)

For years I have not had to log in; I have Active bookmarked and I'm straight in - MN classic etc, with my nickname at the bottom and everything's sorted.

Now every time I go to my bookmark I get MN New (I think) and I'm not logged in. I log in. Then I get MN New and have to customise which I can only do if I'm logged in (and apparently I'm not) so I log in again and then, finally, phew...

Is this a nasty plot to get us off our machines and off to doing something useful?

Oh dear. No, that's not meant to be happening, Jux

Will talk to BigTech in the morning and see if he can come up with a whizzy solution.

I don't know what you did but it's worked. Had to go through the silly route this morning but when I clicked on my bookmark this evening there was no problem.

Thank you Helen and thank you BigTech. big real

How frustrating - We'll wave at Big Tech again and tell him to take another look.

Hi Helen and Catherine. This still isn't working like it used to but I don't know whether it's MN or my computer.

I have bookmarked Active again, where I am all logged in and it's Classic view; the prob is that when I use the bookmark it goes to Active in one of the other views and I am not logged in (this is the big change). I go to Customize, get the log in window, log in, and go to Active, which I then bookmark, having deleted the old bookmark. However, when I use the bookmark, I am back at Active in the wrong view and not logged in.

This only started happening towards the end of June. Before that, I don't think I'd logged in for a couple of years! I just used my bookmark and there I was. Any ideas? Is this my computer being annoying?

Something weird is going on here. I'm new so I'm not sure what you mean by 'Classic' but all of a sudden in the last 10 minutes Mumsnet looks all different. I don't think I've changed anything.

Jux: so sorry to hear it's still going weird on you.

NikitaTech has taken a look at your account and is pretty sure it's not a functional error.

She says, 'This could happen only if cookies get deleted and the "remember me" option is not selected when you log in.'

Could you try logging in one more time and clicking 'remember me', and then sorting your settings as you like them. Then log out and log in again, clicking 'remember me' - and see what happens.

Fingers crossed!

Mine has gone all peculiar too. Suddenly stopped at the back of 2.00 and when I came back at 5.00pm the thread I am following has a massive OP and it appears at the top of each page leaving room for only a few posts.

Well, this is all very odd. I closed all my MN tabs so that dd and her friend wouldn't be tempted to add clever quips to any convos that were open (oh so funny). When I was given the computer back just now, I opened my bookmark and everything is fine, just like it was when it was right. I hadn't done a thing; hadn't even seen your post, Helen.

I might have deleted cookies but my m/c hasn't asked if I want it to remember me vis-a-vis MN for a long long time. I do always go to Yes on the 'remember me until I log out' bit but I never log out (I exist only in the airwaves of MN, you see).

Anyway, it's working properly now, somehow. I suspect NikitaTech has powers of which I have no comprehension.

Thank you Nikita and Helen. (non-passive-aggressive as usual)

LuluSkip, go to Customize and have a root around there. The Classic view has posts all on one page, which you have either latest first (at the top) or the other way around so you read it like a long (sometimes long, long, long) page. You get a choice of colours too. Enjoy MN

NikitaTech has powers beyond everyone at MNHQ's comprehension, Jux. She is Queen of Java

Glad all is better for you, anyway
