I worked with a health visitor in my area. They give all new mums the web site for 'them' when they do their first meeting with mum and new baby!

I'm sorry, Netmums? Who are they?

Its the word expert that concerns me...

Quite! And the fact that it's the only one given, not one of a selection.

It's a disgrace ...the government consults us when it suits them, don't they? Justine, did you say something to piss them off?

Netmums has quite a strong local presence here with regular meet ups in a local cafe and its own facebook page where the organisers ensure regular messages/reminders are sent out to 'members' about lots of local events, not just their own.

It's developed in a totally different way to mumsnet IME. I've belonged to both for eons. I don't regularly visit netmums website although I am a member of their local facebook group.

Hmmm. Thank you for pointing this out to us. We shall cry and stamp our feet till something's done about it very maturely make some enquiries.

You can see why. A lot of first-time mums probably do want something nice and welcoming with some helpful local info. They get sent here, they could stumble into a vicious fight about greggs sausage rolls or a bizarre conversation about penisy sandals and be scared shitless. MN is great but I don't think it's for everyone.

wasn't this announced some time ago? i thought they were getting money for it? i'm sure there was a thread about it at the time, it was quite a big thing.

I think "expert" comes from that they have health visitors, speech and language specialists, relationship counsellors etc posting on their boards and answering members.
It's a different sort of (tightly moderated) site.
