while you're there tech-can you sort out the bold and italics, so you don't have to put the * or ^ around every single word of a phrase? It really slows me down!

It could be that the site has done down for maintenance one night and lost your login.
OR
You are using both your work and home computers - the site can only remember one at a time

I will check with big Tech re the maintenance. Let us know if you are still having probs

'allo Champs

A few q's and I might be able to track it down

Are you on broadband or a dial up
When did it last work
Have you changed anything since
Have you installed any programs or Windows updates?

hi latech, I have bb, just started using it cos my outlook wont work (any idea on that too? It went belly up after I had to remove norton security),

Report
LeTech · 07/02/2005 17:42

Oh dear

Sounds a bit complicated and without being there will be v tricky to diagnose

Did it ever work?

Your BB people should have given you a guide to setting up mail on outloot. Do they have a helpline? BT and telewest are both v good on the phone and will probably know more.

I'm not big on outlook either sadly, norton may have been doing a proxy for you but not sure. Norton v bad and annoying in my experience.

I can recieve mail fine with outlook express but not send

If you can receive we are halfway there!

Assuming you have windows XP open outlook express
Click on Tools->Accounts
Click on Mail
You may have more than one mail account
Select the one which works for receiving if there is more than one.
Click on properties
Click on servers

You need to fill in the correct values for Outgoing mail (SMTP)
I don't know what they will be !! But may be the same as incoming mail, may be written on something from your broadband people.

Give it a go and let me know what the error is if there is one

Is this your normal email account or your mumsnet one? My Outlook express works with my mumsnet one OK.

Report
champs · 07/02/2005 23:15

was my mumsnet one. I have fixed it now!! seems the server kept timing out but mcfee advised me that it was because it was scanning it and that i should stop it from outgoing email scanning.

my outlook is still kaput tho!!! keeps saying it has to shut down.

You havent deleted your cookies/cleared your temp internet files have you?

Report
LeTech · 09/02/2005 21:51

SoupDragon may be onto something

I've been logged in all day so don't think it is the server.

Do you use Internet Explorer and are there any toolbar things like Yahoo or firewalls like ZoneAlarm on your computer?

Bit baffled
