Have I got it wrong? Searchmiracle

I have been having mega problems with my pc lately - its till very poorly and one of its invaders is 'Searchmiracle'.

I've noticed on a couple of links (properties) that they are 'Searchmiracle' sites.

Is it a safe site? just be wary clicking on links.

I might be completely wrong but better safe than sorry!

Hi Joolstide,
SearchMiracle is part of a piece of spyware called "Elite Toolbar". There are instructions on how to remove it on this site . It's quite an involved process though. While it's running you can't really trust all your web browser is saying as it "hijacks" various functions.

thanks Tech - that might help - I'll give it go tonight - but if its anything to do with Registry keys - aaargggh!

what I was saying was that since the 'Bat' joke I always check the 'properties' before opening a link (don't want to get caught out ) and a couple of the links posted on some threads are 'SearchMiracle' and I didn't want anyone to have the trouble I've got!

Do you think if people click on those links it will cause them probs?

I suspect they are not really searchmiracle links. I think searchmiracle in your browser may be altering them for you. Do you have an example of a thread with a link that looks like a searchmiracle link?

Tech!!!! help OMG! my poor pc.

I found quite a few links with Searchmiracle in the properties of the link and was beginning to get suspicious of certain posters . Some of the links seemed to be really odd - random words in a post. Then a bell went off in my head! First thing this morning I checked the links on my work pc and all those weird links do not appear on the posts on this pc - so clearly something very horrible is going on on my home pc.

I did a destructive system restore last week thinking that would solve all my problems but when I eventually got back on to the internet things are 10 times worse!

Thing is I have Norton and ZoneAlarm, Spybot and other software none of which seem to be stopping my problem - ah well!

Thanks for your link to get rid of Elite but I'm no techy! and wouldn't dare do anything in the registry so I'll have to take my pc to get fixed properly!

by the way this is a link to a thread that I saw a Searchmiracle link on. The last post from Socci - the very last word on her post 'computers' appears as a link on my home computer! weird!

Yes, unfortunately, that's one of the things these things do. They read web pages you look at as your computer displays them, and then turn certain words into links.
