....some people can link to a specific post.

I did it once and now I can't do it now.

Would someone kindly tell me how to do it?

Please?

totaleclipse Sat 18-Aug-07 23:19:31

go to the thread you want to link
copy the http address
paste it to where you want it posted
add [[ at front of address
and ]] at end of address

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:20:14

I can do that. But how do I make it jump to a specific post?

totaleclipse Sat 18-Aug-07 23:21:46

oh not sure, I think just scroll down to the post you want before copy and pasting.

totaleclipse Sat 18-Aug-07 23:22:27

Oh I see, read your post wrong, I thought you meant thread, not post.

elesbells Sat 18-Aug-07 23:22:50

tis right to scroll to the post before you copy and paste.
thats how i do it anyway

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:23:31

No worries.
I did it earlier and it worked. I thought I had worked out how to do it - but obviously nopt.

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:24:02

Thats what I did elesbells...didn't work 2nd time.

totaleclipse Sat 18-Aug-07 23:24:31

Have just tried it, and it does'nt work, not for me anyway.

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:25:12

should be a random post by 100times at the top

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:26:24

See doesn't work.

but it worked here (my 22:35 post if it doesn't jump to it.

elesbells Sat 18-Aug-07 23:27:33

ll pin - did you see the link I did for you on the sahm/bf'ing/dummy thread?????

SaintGeorge Sat 18-Aug-07 23:31:15

You need the time stamp bit and message number at the end.

so

www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=374042

gives the whole thread

while

www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=374042&stamp=070818231821#7622590

gives a specific post (LittleBellatrixLeBoot on Sat 18-Aug-07 23:18:21)

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:31:23

What do you mean by "rightclick on the link to copy the link location"

WendyWeber Sat 18-Aug-07 23:32:00

What lapin said - use MN search for the specific post, by poster name or whatever, which will appear at the top of the page, and then copy the URL (I've no idea how that makes it appear in the right place, but it does!)

WendyWeber Sat 18-Aug-07 23:32:43

Ohhhh, StG has just explained it perfectly

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:33:24

arrgggh how do I get teh stamp bit?

TheQueenOfQuotes Sat 18-Aug-07 23:35:05

ok - has this worked - for littlelapin

WendyWeber Sat 18-Aug-07 23:35:46

Use MN search for the post that you want to appear at the top of the page - when you've got that to happen, copy the URL which appears in the white box and paste it into your link.

SaintGeorge Sat 18-Aug-07 23:36:58

Yeah, that worked QoQ, so apparently you only need the message number, no need for the date.

Do what Wendy send to find the specific post, then you get all thei nfo you need for the URL.

SlightlyMadStar Sat 18-Aug-07 23:37:13

Arrrrrr you have to use the search facility.....
