Etiquette of updating or starting a new thread

Hi I’m reasonably new to this - and to forums and want to make sure I don’t breach any accepted etiquette.
I have a thread I started and last updated a month or two ago. Since then I’ve got more info and would like to update and ask some more advice of posters.
Should I update this thread or start a new one? What is accepted as ‘the right thing’?

I wish some threads I've been on have offered updates.

I have updated some threads in the past but others aren't worth updating.

OP zombie threads are when someone reactivates a 10 year old thread that (a) wasn't started by them and (b) adds a comment that is so out of context it makes no sense at all. For example updating a thread by an OP with advice on how to stop their DS from being bullied at primary school when that DS is now in 6th Form!

Zombies are also annoying if it's some spammer just out to cause frustration by not highlighting that it's an old thread but posting to get people to invest time on something years old (not everyone looks at the original date, incl. me!)

If it's your thread and you just want everyone to know how things are going, then that's a nice thing to do. If it makes you feel more comfortable why not start by saying you're reactivating your thread, (eg if you've namechanged since then) so people know it's you.
