AIBU to wish mumsnet didnt delete the whole thread

I spent ages typing on my phone and there was some bloody good advice from many poster. Regardless of whether op is genuine or not or whatever, the content we have all written has value .

I wish they would just put a warning at the beginning of the thread and lock it so nothing new can be posted.

(This is about the ‘tight mum’ thread in particular.)

Nope - in general, not an unreasonable thing at all.

(Before Mumsnet HQ think this is a thread about a thread, it's probably a thread about LOADS of threads that have been deleted and not about one specific thread so please don't delete this one).

I don't know why they don't lock the thread so no additional comments can be made and only in circumstances where a poster has either revealed way too much information about the situation or about themselves would the whole thread be zapped.

As we are on the topic of threads, I also don't know why Mumsnet HQ don't do something about the Zombie threads (i.e. the ones that were last posted on many moons ago). There is one thread (about a carpet fitter) that keeps coming up every few months/years. Surely there is something that could be done to highlight in a VERY noticeable area on the thread that the details are weeks/months/years old (or simply lock all threads that haven't been posted on for 6 or 12 months).

YANBU

It is so annoying when you have contributed to a thread, spent time to compose replies, sometimes with detailed information about your own experiences/situation.

So frustrating when you come back to look at a thread and the whole thing has been zapped!

They’ve done it again with the bereavement one.

Mirror, you mean the lady whose husband died before her baby was born? That was so sad!

How does MN decide if somehing is fake? Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction- no?

I know, right Etoile.

This. I'm new here, but I've wondered about this several times.

I also think it would make things easier if on MN you could press a button to see all of an OPs posts in a thread like you can on babycentre. Or maybe you can but i just don't know how to!

I don’t see the problem. Not all threads are time-sensitive and posters often return to give updates.

Cough, there’s one where the toddler in the post is now finished school but the thread keeps popping up when people don’t realise.

Maybe if the OP had the power to add a link to a new update thread that would satisfy us but without zombie threads.

YABU. MN have deleted a thread for me in the past when I wrote something too personal. Others had quoted and written about it so deleting only my initial post would not have served any purpose.

Also for the poster who asked about highlighting the OP's posts, you can do this via your settings.

I noticed three threads all deleted today, and as a fairly new MNer, wondered if this is normal...?

The zombie thread issue is at least partly due to two very specific glitches on the site (I know it happens on safari and ive seen it on PC as well but can't remember the browser). I've reported both and nothing is being done, until it is it'll keep happening.

When clicking on getting started the trending box shows threads that are zombie threads, the most recent I saw was June 2017, I've seen ones from much older, the other place it happens is in standard search results.

You can't reasonably blame users for those glitches. They're easily fixed and the fact is if you're new and something shows as trending why would you check the date? Or take notice of the zombie pic? Afterall it is trending.

Yes there will be people doing it to wind people up as well, but having a glitch on the getting started page really is a big problem.

I've reported it many times (with screenshots and details) so this isn't news to MNHQ.

^ THIS ^ I don't think you can? I've just looked in settngs and well, there are none! OP's posts in green seems to be the default? It's not a very user-friendly site in this regard. If it was like BBC it would be perfect. Maybe I'll just go to BBC however I MUCH prefer MN!

AhoyDelBoy agree that would be nice. Colouring in the OP's post just isn't enough in a thread with 600+ posts. To get round it, I view the thread in chrome, set it to "view all", and press "Ctrl-F" and type in the OP's username.
Its not ideal but at least it means you have read all the OP's updates before you comment, and skipped straight past the thread marking and "have a biscuit" posts.

I had a nc thread that I posted last week deleted.

I’m going through an extremely distressing time with the issue and the thread was helping me feel a bit less alone. MN clearly thought I was a troll, but thread was 100% genuine.

Users have been complaining about the zombie thread problem for years.
We get told that it’ll be offputting to new users if there are too many zombie warnings.
What I don’t understand is why they can simply put a highlighted line above the op saying ‘this thread was started x months ago’.
The problem with the zombie in the reply box is that they vanish after a few replies.

I'd be furious if my zombie thread was deleted! I still update it occasionally if I've got something new to add. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse/2096707-Professional-Dog-Walkers-Corner-Muddy-pawprints-and-poobags-a-speciality?msgid=49326501

I've sent the link by request to three MNetters who asked for it by private message this year so far.

If a thread is reported the mods. need to make a decision, having been a mod. rather like a swan, we only see the serene glide not the furious paddling underwater. Modding aint easy. They are volunteers who have a life outside of a forum.

Totally agree. The son spending on first class was deleted saying op had gone anyway. I was enjoying reading people’s opinions on first class travel. Confused
