This is getting seriously out of hand.

I KNOW this is t'internet. I know it should not bother me, but it really does!

Once upon a time MN were resistant to deleting threads unless really necessay. Now, it seems as though it is done on request.
I am feeling more that usually pissed off because i actually thought i may be the obkect of OPs ire. Posted, very tongue in cheek, and poof. Thread gone.

This refers to baby clothes thread, before anyone asks.

It vexes me too...all this nonsense about "identifying" is JUST the most feeble excuse, and it totally is out of hand, and is making the place a complete joke.

by all mean edit out RLnames and places, but meh to whining to MNHQ when it doesn't go OPs way and deleting threads

too bad, I say post and be damned. :o

Hi toooldtobearsed,

We'd rather not turn this into a TAAT - but we don't just delete threads because we're asked. We realise it's hugely frustrating when a thread's zapped, but we're about making lives easier and when a thread is no longer doing that and causing real concern, we will consider taking it down. These things are also dealt on a case-by-case basis, as with any reported threads or posts.

Oh lordy are you the lovely lady who donated the baby clothes?

PrincessMargaret · 10/05/2018 19:21

It's only causing concern because op was told she was wrong.

I think it was hinted at that the woman giiving the clothes was a social worker involved with op's family or something? Perhaps more to it than first thought.

Hi @Toooldtobearsed,

We just wanted to point out that in the case of this particular thread, the OP did actually mail in within minutes of posting it to ask us to please take it down. Unfortunately, her report landed in the Spam basket and we didn't see it for several hours.

We do completely take your point about thread deletions in general being flipping annoying, though - and we really do try to keep them to the bare minimum.

I dont think I was the person involved, but hope that if i was, my response was fairly innocuous!

MNHQ, I appreciate what you are saying, but for the love of God, what was in that thread that was so bad it needed to be deleted?

Anyhoo, I handed myself a grip and will just plough on 😉

@JoanneMumsnet, sorry, threads crossed - I am slow of thought and even slower at typing!

Fair enough, and thank you for taking the time to explain.

No problem at all - by this time of night I'm getting pretty slow too... Smile

I'm sure you must have statistics on how many non trill threads are deleted per month, it would be interesting to see those, I'm pretty sure that a few years ago a deletion was a rarity, now it's a daily event.
