You can see previews of old chat threads on the iPhone app?

So ... I was trying to look up any threads on The Last Jedi after watching (and absolutely hating it!) this evening.

I'm only mentioning that because I've attached a screenshot of the kind of thread that came up - really old ones from chat that I think people would expect to have been deleted? When I click on them it says there's nothing there, but you can still read quite a bit. Is that something for tech to look at?

But chat is supposed to vanish after a while isn't it? People start threads there saying that sometimes?

I think it's 30 days, not chat, that gets deleted automatically

But the description at the top of screenshot from the desktop site here says they last 90 days? If they're supposed to last, why is that there, and why can't you see the old threads in full on the app?

Also my GOD the last Jedi was terrible. I'm annoyed that I've reminded myself, I'd repressed it overnight and everything. Grin

Oh I'm on the app so don't get that message. Is the thread still there when you click on it?

No, the threads are all gone, it's just the previews which are accessible.

I've seen loads of people post over the years in chat "so it vanishes", or refuse to move the thread to other sections because they wanted it to disappear.

It works if you search old usernames too so it's not always just the top 3 posts in a thread either, seems like a GDPR nightmare holding on to all that data pointlessly and then showing it in certain circumstances.

I do also worry about the lack of information on the app (including the MH board) - people who sign up here on the app don't get the same warning or explanation messages.

Hi guys, thanks for raising this. Yeah there's currently an issue that we're aware of, but takes a while to fix!

We're still working on it, so thank you for your patience.

Thanks for replying @TimMumsnet Smile

Out of curiosity, why do you keep those threads alive behind the scenes? In terms of GDPR etc it might be worth making it clear to users that you store years of old information which they probably assume is gone! Even if it's "only" accessible to you guys there's presumably a cost in terms of keeping it all and restricted access to it?
