Long standing posters

I'm confused MNHQ. I've always been led to believe that anyone and by that I mean it doesn't matter whether you've just joined up or been here 15 years, couldn't post in a way that was inflammatory, hurtful or goady and that the necessary actions would be taken to those posting in such a way.

Now I'm not so sure. The thread last night that was left to stand and that had the obvious backing from MNHQ makes a mockery of what MN has always maintained they're about tbh. Yes a poster might have years of posting history and in your words "posted thousands of times" but when that poster is being deliberately hurtful to posters that are imo vulnerable I cannot fathom out why this wasn't zapped.

Also a long posting history doesn't mean that person isn't above board in every single case. There have been numerous trolls/goady posters on here that have had years of posting. Surely you're not saying that because someone has longevity that they must believed and can post just how they like?

What thread was this?

It was a thread last night from a long standing poster that had NC. She was understandably upset regarding her friend's cancer diagnosis but was very aggressive and hurtful to posters that themselves have or have had cancer, there were posters also on the thread that had lost children to cancer too. She was goady and also misquoted one person, which was particularly awful.

If she had apologised for this posters would I'm sure been able to see that she was just in an upset state and would have been more compassionate. But she didn't.

i always thought if posters call troll. mn hq come on and say the NC is a long standing poster (that might mean 1 yr or 20) just to say they havn't just joined.

Agree with you here GreatDuck, I can't believe it was left to stand for so long after I left reading, that OP's posts were awful and shouldn't have been left to stand

They often do Samcro, which is perfectly fine and understandable. That's not the issue here though.

Hi, GreatDuck,

Thanks for flagging this.

We don't allow posters to break TGs, no matter how long they've been on MN. We were dealing with that thread as we would any other, and we're sorry you feel we missed the mark this time. We deal with each thread on a case-by-case and we certainly don't always get things right.

We don't allow troll-hunting, and so we posted to say we believe the OP to be genuine, rather than to suggest Talk Guidelines don't apply. It's true that a long posting history doesn't necessarily indicate a poster is above board but in this instance, we didn't think the OP was a troll.

We can only see one report from you last night asking if the OP was genuine - we're sorry if we missed more somewhere. We got a lot more reports about the poster you're referring to after hours, and we can see our Night Watch team stepped in to hide the thread.

We don't want to turn this into a taat - so we won't say more about that particular thread now, but if you'd like to discuss this in more detail, please do drop us a line. Flowers
