Getting the gin emoticon all the time

When reading threads I seem to get the gin emoticon when it looks like the poster has put a face emoticon instead, if that makes sense.

So for example they will write 'and they pulled this face (emoticon)' but I just see gin.

Using the app on a Samsung j3

I only ever see the gin too! I'd never even thought it odd though until I saw This! Ha ha!

I get this on the mobile site too. Even if I put my own emoticons in using the correct formatting (rather than phone ones) they show as gin. They view fine if I check on my laptop.
Although you can probably never have too much gin........

I'm also on Samsung galaxy S8 and have same thing! Sometimes a poster will bring up a really emotional, serious issue and loads of people will accompany their advice with gin - I did think something wasn't right!

I'm using the app on a Samsung and get this too. It used to do a range of 'wrong' emoticons , but seeing this has made me realise of late it has indeed been mostly gin that is being substituted. It's obvious from the context of posts that the wrong picture was shown, plus my own posts show different smilies to the ones I typed. The App also doesn't like to display text formatting such as paragraphs (which shows fine on the desktop site).

I get this all the time, not on here but when DH sends me texts with smileys on. All I see is aliens instead. I wonder about him sometimes...

that might be the phone takeitandleaveit , dh's emoticons are like that in a text message but whatsapp and fb are your more usual ones.

unless of course your dh is from Mars.

I've just had the torch emoji and the bike emoji appear on two separate threads where the poster had certainly not put them - judging by the style and content of each thread, some kind of face was what they had put in.
