There are some people on the thread holding her hand, hopefully we can give some support. She seems to be chatting. So sad for her, wish we could help in RL, but it's the best we can do.

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for flagging this here and for the reports. We're on that thread as we speak. Thanks again Flowers.

I struggle with the fact these threads are deleted. I really do. If someone really is on the brink of suicide and using this site then I doubt they will phone the help lines recommended and the deletion could push them over the edge. It’s one of the few policy decisions I struggle with on here, because I do believe in some instances a life could be at stake.

You deleted it???? What???? She was reaching out. She was talking and this might have been her last lifeline. I'm fucking speechless Angry

It would be helpful to understand the reasoning.

I understand why you have deleted but I would like to voice my unease
She reached out to us and we have turned her away.
I will feel dreadfully guilty if she now reaches no one and ends things.

MurmmersShow · 19/11/2017 21:50

Why is it policy for deleting? I don't understand.

I’m guessing there would be a lot of similar posts, not many of them genuine. Also, we aren’t generally speaking qualified in the best way to support people.

I was on the thread, it's really awful, poor lady. Does mn ever try and contact the poster?

They always delete suicide threads. They have taken advice and I think the logic is that it is unlikely to help the poster keeping it up, but it may well harm other people?

I have been where the OP on that thread has been several times. Being able to reach out on here enabled me to get the help I needed.

I am absolutely devastated as this basically means that at my most anxious I'll literally have no where to turn.

Unbelievable.

I feel awful that this was deleted. She reached out and was turned away?!

Report
LEMtheoriginal · 19/11/2017 21:53

The advice was to comment and point the poster in the direction of help not to delete so somethings changed. makes the advertising companies uncomfortable

LEM absolutely here here.
In 2008 MN saved my life.

Seems like today it would leave me to fester and make various hideous choices v

It is absolutely right that those threads are deleted. It’s what mental health experts and charities recommend.

Posters are not qualified to talk a poster out of suicide and unwittingly post things that make the situation worse.

Everyone has good intentions but those threads have to go.

Report
StupidSlimyGit · 19/11/2017 21:54

I hope the poster of that thread sees this one and knows, although we are strangers, we are thinking of you and hoping you get the help you need.

Surely there's a way round this. How can people post to get support?
Suicide shouldn't be a taboo that we delete. It's valid that people feel like this.
