I've only seen this sort of advertising on really shitty sites before. Was surprised to see it on MN....

BeyondStrongAndStable Thu 11-May-17 09:52:37

I was surprised there wasn't a thread about it when I first spotted it, so assumed it was just my iPad playing silly buggars.

I have Adblock on btw, if that is relevant

There is a thread, I saw it yesterday. It's probably in site stuff

Hello!

Thanks so much for flagging this.

It's something we're currently testing and we've started a thread about it in site stuff, you can take a look here.

Please do pop any feedback you have on the above thread, we're keeping a close eye!

Sorry - I didn't see the thread (I did check for one). Perhaps when you announce changes you could sticky the thread so that you don't get folk like me posting new threads all over the place.

And I'd still rather pay a subscription than have ads ...

FruBayerischOla Thu 11-May-17 16:46:03

But MNHQ did 'sticky' the thread - at least 24 hours ago

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Thu 11-May-17 16:52:53

For some reason on the mobile site stickied threads aren't always shown / shows different stickied threads at different times.

LornaMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 11-May-17 17:05:16

Hello!

Stickied threads are on a rota system whereby a number of threads take it in turns to appear as pinned.

Hope this clears things up a bit!

"And I'd still rather pay a subscription than have ads"

This is fine for those of us who can afford to pay a subscription.

What about the MNers who are living hand-to-mouth on a daily basis, but want some help, support, friendship, etc - but simply can't afford a subscription?

Whilst MN is a hugely commercial enterprise these days, I'm sure that - deep in its origins - is the ethos that it's for everyone?

But the option can be subscription or adverts, not subscription or no access. Isn't that how lots of newspaper sites do it now?

bibbitybobbityyhat Thu 11-May-17 17:51:06

Agree, subscription for no adverts is the way to go. Didn't we have this discussion just a month or so ago re. the shop name links in threads (sorry can't remember technical term).

Keep a free + adverts version for those who prefer it.

Those are options I wasn't aware of. Not bad ideas to consider, I guess.
