Please can we have some clarification about what MN (or probably more specifically, certain MN posters) consider as ageism?
I've just gone to reply to a thread about an older man potentially harassing a younger woman in a swimming pool, only to find that it has been removed because of reports of ageism.
I'm sorry, but what the actual fuck? The OP mentioned a man in his 60s. I do not see how that is ageist. She was stating a fact as she saw it. The only derogatory part of her post was the suggestion that he was perving at younger female swimmers, which was pretty much totally unrelated to his age.
I agree that we shouldn't be ageist, but I don't feel that trawling every thread which mentions an older person to look for something which might be considered ageist is productive. Unless this particular thread was a troll, it could have actually been a useful place for women who have been harassed while exercising.
