Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

I'm also questioning this! I literally just read the post you are on about clicked watch because I wanted to see if MNHQ commented & then I refreshed my watch page & it had gone HmmConfused

Really?!?

I stuck it my watch list to post on later and it has gone!

What was the reason please?

Soubriquet · 13/11/2016 21:57

No strikes

You just can't log in again. Done

And when you email them, it takes a while to get a reply

Been there done that

The MN naughty step must be getting a bit crowded.

Poster couldn't access account and neither could somebody else. Neither were sent an email or given any reason as to why they had been banned.

TrippyMcTrapFace · 13/11/2016 22:02

I'd like to know a bit more about this too. Not any details of specific posters/threads etc but general guidelines as to what gets you banned or rather, how to avoid it.
A 'simply follow Talk Guidelines ' response wouldn't really clarify it for me. Confused

Ah I shall settle in for a long wait then, cheers for the Horlicks!

There has to be some sort of mn laws about it though surely?

I can't imagine them sitting there cackling as they give a random poster the red button treatment for posting about knitting Grin

And yes, this is a taat, but honestly, it seems that the ' freedom of speech' much lauded recently is sadly lacking at the moment.

It wpuld be appreciated if we could have clearly defined rules regarding what is bannable. The problem with not having anything is that it can seem that who and what is banned/ removed is simply down to random decisions being taken by MNHQ.

I dont want to be banned. I like it here and am usully well behaved, but there does seem to have been a lot of strange goings on recently regarding what is allowed to remain (gf's especially), and what is removed.

wannabe I have tried to reply to your pm but I am unable to. Anyway, I have pasted it here with the names redacted. This thread might go, so I don't think I am breaking any rules and I know you can read even if you cannot post right now

Hi

I am sorry you have been crook, I hope you get well soon Flowers

I hope you don't think I am minimising how horrible it is to be shut out of a place that you feel used to and part of the furniture there

This happened to me twice and I found it immensely frustrating to not have the power to reply. I spent many hours poring over threads and fuming....

I felt like MN left me stewing for a few days, for sure. I was also hugely angry that it was inconsequential goady fuckers that got me suspended but I did have to concede that if I had not risen to the goading I would not be in that position.

Lovey, it's hugely unfair and I know how it feels.

But if you want to come back, just grit your teeth and suck it up. They will let you back if you wait a few days then promise to behave. They have let me back twice under similar circs. They don't really want to ban you permanently, I promise. Just say you will be a good girl and it will go back to normal.

I was a bit paranoid for a while, but I have had a few post deletions since and no further consequences.

In fact, I have to admit I have changed my posting style somewhat and it is for the better. I don't get as embroiled in pointless shit as I used to and I think it has done me good. Life teally is too short for all the crap. You will think this in a few weeks too although it won't feel like that just now.

Anyway, I am rambling about myself. You are a popular poster, for sure. I think we have had some disagreements in the past but I like you and respect you.

I hope you can come back in a few days feeling better than ever. Take care, love. AF x

I wonder if there have been glitches on the site-this happened to me a few days ago. I thought I'd been banned (I couldn't for the life of me see why) but it was a technical problem.

Report
AnyFucker · 13/11/2016 22:06

It's not a tech problem, PD

I'm not sure what is going on, people are being banned and told they have breached talk guidelines, but not where or how apparently. If this is the case then it's a little 'it's my ball and I'm going home', if not then the ones who are left could do with some clarity. Mn was a source of sanity for me when things went tits up, I'm not sure it would help had it been now.

I always assumed it was three strikes and you're out. It worked quite well on another forum, except for the fact that your profile told everyone how many strikes you had. Hmm Also, when you were out, it was permanent.

I was just about to read that I'd missed and poof... gone.
I think at least an automatic email isn't asking a lot?
Trump gets elected and then we lose our "Free speech"?

It's a conspiracy!

Chin up Wannabe 😊

There are a few posters on here I enjoy reading, don't always agree with them, but love their posting style - quick witted, thoughtful , but most of all, straight. By that i mean simple, plain speaking. Not goady fuckers, who seem to have free rein at the moment.

Hope to see you back soon.

AF, you changed your posting style??? 😁

It's definitely not three strikes and you're out. Someone I know got one warning, a fairly nice one, about a year ago and now has been banned completely. Just as others have said, no warning, then no answer to her email for a week or two then a very abrupt one telling her that MN was not the site for her.

PurpleDaisies · 13/11/2016 22:16

How do you know AnyFucker? It sounds exactly the same as what happened to me-did I get banned and reinstated without noticing?Blush

I hope wannabe gets things sorted-I like her posts.

Marking place (I have seen at least three posting names who are MIA)

Iirc from anyfuckers previous escapade though, the answer was that it is down to independent MNHQers interpretation, there is no "rule". Generally you will be more likely to be welcomed back if you are a long term (generally calm!) poster who lost their temper, whereas a hairy handed man sharing dick picks will be less welcome. And generally there will usually be at least one warning for regular posters. But nothing is definite.

Lots of generally's in there...
