I've had a flurry of odd deletions over the past 6 months, been here 8 yrs. They have not broken talk guidelines, but can see how in a litigation panic that button may have been hit. But this thread
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a2726298-What-do-you-do-for-charities-around-christmas-time
This thread has all negative, but not positive, references to Operation Christmas child or Samaritans purse deleted. So Mumsnet is effectively promoting the highly controversial OCC. I was careful to stick to the facts and only linked to OCC legitimate sites. After some more odd deletions, ok OCC have sent legal team to MNHQ before, this series of post from the OP

No!!

Please remove. Thank you.
To me it looks like the OP is editing her own thread via the report button! This undermines the whole forum surely? I got up this morning to find even more deletions. Under what talk guidelines does saying last year for xmas I got OCC banned from my DC's school and this year I plan to do the same in their new school break the rules?
MNHQ if we are not to discuss OCC then it should be a complete ban. If none of this was meant to be and it's an error, this sort of error is happening a frequently in the last 6/12 months.

I'm not sure what is going on but every time I click on the link you have posted it only shows half of the thread (bottom half is blank white screen) and them my mac crashes. I have tried it 3 times now Hmm

I thought those posts were really odd too and the OP completely ignored the poster (think it might have been you OP?) who questioned it?

Confused

Have you reported this thread OP?
You might get a quicker response

I have reported every post the OP made promoting OCC
Supporting OCC shoeboxes. Breaks MN talk guidelines of not promoting homophobia.
It was me who asked about the posts and the OP is ignoring me.

I'm just rather concerned that if members can and do edit their own thread via the report button it kind of makes a mockery of MN being a place to come and get mostly well informed open debate. MNHQ don't delete whole threads if the OP doesn't like how it went, but are happy to let the OP pick and choose which direction by deleting other peoples responses?

Then there's OCC and legal threats. MNHQ might need to clarify. If any negative factual talk of OCC is not allowed for all of our sakes, then nothing can be said or MNHQ are supporting the OCC and so promoting homophobia, Islamophobia by allowing only one sides information to be distributed whilst actively deleting the others sides facts. So MNHQ, what's going on?

Have you reported this thread though, so MNHQ can see it and hopefully answer you?

I agree, it's rather odd.

How do you report a whole thread Worra? I looked at doing that first with the other thread, trying not to TAT, before starting this, but can't see how Sad
I wouldn't mind so much but facts are disappearing in favour of promoting very poor models of fund raising.

Report your first post, and they'll have a look at the thread.

A couple of years ago OCC threatened several of us with legal action if we didn't have our comments on an OCC thread removed. I was one of them. I didn't say anything which wasn't true either.

It isn't Christmas on MN without OCC threatening us.

What a strange thread...

That OP seems to be in her own clouds...

As an aside, can they really carry out legal action for bad mouthing them

Hi Scaredycat3000,

Thanks for this.

I've had a look into this one now and it does seem to be the case that we have pressed the big red button in haste. I have reinstated your posts now and apologise for the upset.

We do feel that it's important to say that we are all for freedom of speech but posters do need to know that they are personally responsible for what they post.

If we receive a complaint from the company involved we may have to give the poster the option of whether or not they'd like to stand by their post and give their information over to the complainant (following a court order to do so) for possible legal proceedings. More on this here

We were heavy handed on that thread and we have reinstated your posts now. We have not removed posts that mention OCC as the same goes for both sides of the coin.

Our guidelines state that we will remove posts that are homophobic not posts about a company that is potentially homophobic.

We hope that helps to clarify and we are sorry for any upset caused.

Thank you Rebecca Flowers I was hoping assuming it was a mistake rather than policy.

I've just looked at that thread and the posts are still deleted.

Some of the other posters posts will have to remain deleted, some definitely were libellus even if I agree with the sentiment. I didn't read/remember all of the deleted posts, so there may well be others who got deleted by the OP.unfairly. My factually correct posts and posters that then quoted me have been re instated.
