Can I clarify - is telling someone they are wrong or are patronising you considered a personal attack? I wouldn't say so, but I interpret things wrong sometimes!!
I ask because there seem to be some weird deletions around...??

PurpleDaisies Fri 02-Sep-16 17:33:19

You can definitely tell people you disagree with them as long as you don't do it in a way that's a personal attack.

You are wrong because X, y, z fine.
You are a total bitch and wrong, not fine.

Well that's what I thought, purple. But I was reading a thread earlier and nothing jumped out as breaking guidelines, just people disagreeing. I see it again and all of a sudden it's like Swiss cheese!!

Ok, I thought personal attack meant name calling, I just want clarification

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:41:42

^^ example there of the type of posts.
I've certainly somewhat vociferously given my opinion before without deletion, so have I just been 'lucky'?

PurpleDaisies Fri 02-Sep-16 17:42:47

I must have totally missed that-which thread?

I think telling people that they constantly pop up on threads effectively to make trouble probably does count as a personal attack so I could see why that might get deleted.

How is it a PA? I'm actually genuinely confused confused
I can see it isn't nice, but I've certainly seen many, many posts like that stand before. Did they all break guidelines too?

Probably, but they might not have been reported.

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:45:08

If that post to usual is a PA, then surely that scuttley comment is?

Wtf hq. I am lost.

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:45:45

Mn will cease to exist is snarky comments are banned! grin

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:46:25

Black and white guidelines would be so much easier to navigate.

IfTheCapFitsWearIt Fri 02-Sep-16 17:48:17

Its a personal attack, because its a character assignation on a poster.

beyond I think this thread is a mistake and you should ask for it to be deleted. I've reported it as a thread about a thread.

I'm surprised you can't see that what was written was a personal attack.

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:52:26

Wtf usual? There were loads of deletions, not just that one! Why would I start a thread to have a dig at you when I didn't even post on the thread - I was just reading it

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:53:23

Purple. I am autistic and I find some things bloody difficult to interpret.
Fuck me though - this is an absolute car crash!

kua Fri 02-Sep-16 17:54:18

Somewhat ironic given the quoted thread

BeyondASpecialSnowflake Fri 02-Sep-16 17:54:36

If a "character assassination" counts as a personal attack then there we go. It's not in the bloody guidelines though.

beyond if it's helpful, criticising the opinion is fine, criticising the poster themselves isn't.

In the example youaremyrain has used the poster is being criticised for being a pain on multiple threads. That's an attack on them.

PurpleDaisies Fri 02-Sep-16 17:56:55

Character assassination woyld definitely come under the umbrella term "personal attack".

IfTheCapFitsWearIt Fri 02-Sep-16 17:59:02

What else would a character assignation come as? If you pull someone apart bit by bit thats pretty personal.
