Is there anything you can do to help abused women?

A thread has caused me to think that something needs to change for women who are suffering domestic abuse.

At the moment there is not enough support. Some have to go into hiding and are essentially cut off from the world.

Unable to register, unable to vote, unable to gain credit or even claim certain benefits.

This is disgusting. Why are women being let down in society and their abusers are getting away with it?

On top of this, many refuges are closing down to lack of funding. Is there anything MNHQ can do to help?

Your website is a beacon for women. It provides a lot of support and advice to those seeking it. You could potentially be a very powerful voice to the public

Absolutely, MNHQ. I can't think of a more worthy cause - the effects I see on a daily basis for children at school who are living with/have lived with DV are horrendous.

But the funding for our local support has been taken away.

100% agree.

MN has been a huge support to me emotionally throughout the hell I was living.

It would be great to have MN lead a campaign to support even more women like me.

Mumsnet was easily the best resource and point of support for me to get out of my abusive marriage.

I would still be married to him without mumsnet.

An invaluable resource.

What an excellent idea. Count my vote for a MN campaign.

I've tried several times this week to call Women's Aid. Still haven't got through.

Absolutely! I actually can't think of a better suited campaign that mumsnet could be affiliated with.

I feel so proud to be part of a site that helped women gain access to safe abortions where they are currently illigal avoids going off on a tangent rant mumsnet should keep championing woman. Its what I believe the site does best.
