Ads freezing the page, finally leading to error message

Is it just me...

On my computer the video ads on the right hand side quite often slow down the page so I can't scroll down. Eventually it freezes and pops up an error message saying there is a script that needs to be debugged or stopped. If I manage to get the video to pause the page works again until the video manages to restart itself (grr).

I've got updated flash player so it's not that. It's just really annoying because I don't care about the ads anyway.

I have it too Owl. It's often unusable. I use Firefox but not sure which version and it isn't all the time.

Hi there TheCuriousOwl,

Thanks so much for flagging this. Apologies for the annoyance!

Could you send over a screenshot and also let us know what device you are using?

lifesalongsong · 13/05/2016 17:08

This happens to me all the time too, I use firefox on a laptop. Sometimes I can't read for days as its too frustrating other times it doesn't happen at all

I'd send you a screenshot but everytime it happens I have to close the browser at it totally freezes.

It's definitely MN as it doesn't happen on any other sites

I hope this is clear, I had to take a photo and post from my phone

Thank you lifesalongsong - we'll make sure our ads team are aware of this.

I've just come on to say the same. My iPad keeps reloading the page. It seems to tie in to when the angry birds stuff came online.

AlexandraPeppernose · 15/05/2016 21:18

This happens to me a lot. Makes it totally unusable.

Same here.
I use Chrome on a laptop. Not sure if the problem is MN or my antivirus's (BullGuard) reaction to the advertisements. Either way, it's very annoying and I don't get it on other sites.
I know that you have to have adverts to fund the site but if they are taking over to the extent that the site is no longer functioning for nor appealing to your readers then it's a bit counterproductive, non?

AmyGMumsnet · 17/05/2016 09:34

Morning, a quick one to say we haven't forgotten about this! Thanks very much for all the screenshots and info, it really does help us out Flowers

lifesalongsong · 17/05/2016 11:48

Still happening for me, I did notice that one time it was a Mumsnet recipe advert that was loading if that's any help

longdiling · 17/05/2016 13:02

I was just coming on to post about this! I use a laptop with Windows 10. Use chrome and it has avast on it. I can no longer go on mumsnet on my laptop at all, it just freezes with that same script debug message and then crashes chrome. It's been happening for a week or so.

OrangeFluff · 17/05/2016 16:32

Yes this has been happening to me too for the last week or so. It makes MN completely unusable on my laptop. It makes everything freeze and I get that same pop up message. No other sites cause this. I'm using Firefox on Windows 10.

landoflostcontent · 18/05/2016 20:02

Screen shot from a few days ago. Still happening on laptop Windows 10 using either Firefox or Google Chrome. Mobile not affected so far.

This has got really bad the last few days, I now can't view MN using Chrome at all as it slows down until it freezes totally and the page stops responding. I have to close the browser and start again. Explorer is coping a little better but still eventually freezes up.

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 06/06/2016 19:52

Just to mention that's on laptop too, haven't yet had this problem on ipad.
