When are they going? It's 'after Christmas' and a bit more now. Smile

You're never gonna give it up until they're gone, are you?

😄😉😚

Just a friendly reminder. I can't see half of them along with lots of other posters. Teeny tiny squares.

Yes MN I haven't forgotten either, and I still find non MN emojis irritating - they really "pop" out if the page, and are very distracting when reading.

The ones I can actually see don't add anything at all to the conversation.

Of course MNHQ could make the MN ones more up-to-date and less like they were 'drawn' on a BBC computer in 1987. Then my life would be complete.

Actually no, when MN do that and Apple do a Hmm, then my life would be complete.

But if MN updated their emojis they would become more intrusive as well.

Tbh Sparkling, I don't think the 'Mumsnetter Approved' ones do either!

I still like them though.

The MN emojis are fine. Small and not too many of them. I like it that they are different from FB/Twitter et al.

And there is nothing that comes close to the Hmm face.

I just think less pixelated would be nice. They just seem a bit backward to me and they jar with Wine, Brew, Cake, Flowers and Star, all of which are accepted as fine.

I think they've done it on the app, but the app's a bit shit in other ways so I use the mobile site.

Are they definitely going?

I think it's probably time for MN to embrace outsider emojis, or update their own selection so that people don't want to use others. As they become more common and open-source, it'll be more difficult to block them.

It might be a better use of time to sticky something advising people the common reasons why they aren't showing, and potential fixes.

The problem is that not everyone can see the outsider emojis so they are currently useless.

The attraction of MN for lots of people is that it is plain and not littered with lots of emojis.

I don't have FB or Twitter but I have seen the emojis on my teenager's and teens seem to love them. I think that says it all.

The attraction of MN for lots of people is that there's a limited amount of interfering with what people post and how they post it Wink

To be totally honest I doubt my heart would break if they went, but I don't think their existence is that much of a biggy.

I apologise for teasing you though and I will try to shut up.

Lol, sorry - I just like that emoji and I think MN should have it, other than that, I don't care either way tbh...I just can't resist posting them if someone complains about them Smile

What does that one mean tabula? I can see it but don't know what it's saying to me.

Perhaps they could just block all emoji from displaying (even the MN ones)?

Report
tabulahrasa · 01/02/2016 12:30

It's a sort of purposefully not laughing face mostly, so if I'm taking the piss out of myself or being a bit sarcastic I'd use it. Or sometimes it's a milder version of Hmm.

Yes, it's my most frequently used emoji...don't know what that says about me right enough, lol

Hi there Sparklingbrook,

We're afraid there are no imminent plans to get shot of the non-MN emojis. Sad

That's not to say they're going to be here forever, but we're not getting a shed load of complaints about them any more, and now the initial excitement's worn off, they seem to be on the wane. And Tech have said it'll be a complete pain in the butt trying to switch them back off...

We're sorry, though, we know you hate them. Would this help? Brew Cake

Maybe we've stopped complaining because we did complain and MNHQ ignored the complaints. So we feel there is no point in complaining.
