Premature birth section

I haven't ventured on to that forum for ages as my ex prem dts are big enough for the nicu experience to seem a lifetime away.
During our time in NICU there were plenty of babies (some of them very poorly) who weren't premature.
The charity Bliss support families of babies born too soon, too small, too sick, so is there anyway we could change the premature birth forum to NICU or similar, (the name doesn't really tbh) I just thought it should be open to everyone and whilst I am sure a parent of a sick baby would be welcomed with open arms, the fact that it is labeled as premature birth might stop them venturing in for some much needed support.

Or maybe then premature/nicu as I had the former but not the latter.

I disagree with this idea completely. There is already a children's health section of MN for parents of children who are unwell.

I've had two premature babies myself and found being able to access a board that was for parents of children going though the same thing as me was invaluable.

Maybe a NICU board would be a good idea but don't mix the two.

Yes anything really, just a place for parents of sick / premature newborn babies to support each other and share experiences.

Tbh I don't know if I would have used the children's health board if I had a sick newborn baby.
I know having a prem baby will be different to having a poorly baby, but for me the hard part was having my babies whisked away, seeing them covered in tubes and wires - the bleeping of NICU. That would be a shared experience and something I thought we could could support each other with.

Maybe you are right and I guess a lot of the experiences are the same and the bleeping and the wires are the those things we all struggle with. There are loads of things that are prem specific though so I do think that a premature baby board should be primarily about premature babies.

I don't think there is a right or wrong Palomb, I've just noticed that there seems to be a bit of a gap in support - although it doesn't directly effect me, maybe parents of poorly babies do use the children's health board... I don't know.
As Iam pointed out not all perms need NICU, so maybe a NICU specific board would be better.

Although I also like the premature / NICU suggestion. Tbh I thought it would be nice to open a space up to more people, with out taking it away from anyone
