Has anyone else noticed the one-liner trolls?

There's one on the nudist beach thread now and I've noticed them on several threads I've read in the last few days.

I think I remember one on the (since deleted) thread about different ways to assault Peter Connelly's mother and also on the super-glue on the toilet seat thread.

I'm going to have to retrace my steps to find them, I think.

What's it all in aid of?

No, I'm not sure attention is the point for these particular trolls. They post one sentence and bugger off. Some quite rude, some banal but nothing to cause debate (which they don't wait around for anyway).

The nudist beach one reads more like a spam bot than a troll, I haven't spotted any others.

But the ratio of posters who post a one line, superficial, spiteful response to just about anything an OP might be asking about ... has shot up to the point where they are setting the tone on far too many threads.

And the bugger is most stay just a hair away from going over the boundaries of TOS. So you can't even report them.

I don't think they are trolls. Unfortunately I think that is just how they see the world, how they communicate and what they think support/debate looks like. It's more likely a wave of incoming, perhaps attracted by the tweeting of certain threads.

May I suggest an occasional brief trip to the food/recipes board as an antidote. They are lovely, and it restores one's faith in online community spirit.

Maybe your trolldar is just better. There have always been one liner trolls. They don't have a favourite topic, don't argue, don't fabricate complex stories. Just post throwaway, slightly inflammatory curt messages and move on. Aibu is their most common hunting ground but they don't discriminate.

The baby names troll is lacking in wit, knows the hooks to use and gets a bite very quickly. Still not sure why though. It just seems easy. Maybe that's the draw.

I went and not only did my vague idea of making ice cream come to pass into actual, delicious ice cream (and one "will make you blind probably" disaster ice cream ... but that was my fault) but I came away all drunk on the (non ice creamed) milk of human friendly, helpful, funny loveliness that the board is soaked in.

I'll thinking of setting up a permenent camp there. It will mean I have to learn how to cook. But I consider this a silver lining.
