Has anyone else noticed the one-liner trolls?

There's one on the nudist beach thread now and I've noticed them on several threads I've read in the last few days.

I think I remember one on the (since deleted) thread about different ways to assault Peter Connelly's mother and also on the super-glue on the toilet seat thread.

I'm going to have to retrace my steps to find them, I think.

What's it all in aid of?

Nobody?

BrianCoxReborn Wed 06-Jan-16 10:07:54

Attention.

Ignore on thread. Report.

They thrive on attention so give none.

fidel1ne Wed 06-Jan-16 10:12:44

No, I'm not sure attention is the point for these particular trolls. They post one sentence and bugger off. Some quite rude, some banal but nothing to cause debate (which they don't wait around for anyway).

The nudist one seemed to be advertising. Very odd.

I'll look for others later when I get back home. It's bugging me.

The nudist beach one reads more like a spam bot than a troll, I haven't spotted any others.

Haven't seen a nudist troll <thankful>

But the ratio of posters who post a one line, superficial, spiteful response to just about anything an OP might be asking about ... has shot up to the point where they are setting the tone on far too many threads.

And the bugger is most stay just a hair away from going over the boundaries of TOS. So you can't even report them.

I don't think they are trolls. Unfortunately I think that is just how they see the world, how they communicate and what they think support/debate looks like. It's more likely a wave of incoming, perhaps attracted by the tweeting of certain threads.

May I suggest an occasional brief trip to the food/recipes board as an antidote. They are lovely, and it restores one's faith in online community spirit.

I've noticed the baby names troll is posting A LOT atm. Far more than usual.

DropYourSword Wed 06-Jan-16 11:06:50

Why do you think online necessarily equals troll? I don't understand what was wrong with the nudist beach one??

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads Wed 06-Jan-16 11:07:03

I thought the nudist beach one could be a bot of some sort rather than a troll.

DropYourSword Wed 06-Jan-16 11:07:23

Gaaaah. One line, not bloody online.

hownottofuckup Wed 06-Jan-16 11:07:57

The baby names troll befuddles my mind. Why?? Just whhyyyy???

Raxacoricofallapatorius Wed 06-Jan-16 11:10:34

Maybe your trolldar is just better. There have always been one liner trolls. They don't have a favourite topic, don't argue, don't fabricate complex stories. Just post throwaway, slightly inflammatory curt messages and move on. Aibu is their most common hunting ground but they don't discriminate.

Raxacoricofallapatorius Wed 06-Jan-16 11:12:31

The baby names troll is lacking in wit, knows the hooks to use and gets a bite very quickly. Still not sure why though. It just seems easy. Maybe that's the draw.

fidel1ne Wed 06-Jan-16 11:13:44

If spambots can do that, that makes sense, for the nudist one at least.

Yes, that's it to a T. They've always been with us? Maybe my trolldar has just improved all of a sudden, then.

WatchedFrozenWayTooMuch Wed 06-Jan-16 11:16:38

I am confused about why anybody will bother to troll the baby names board. Or what they would even say.

HanSolo Wed 06-Jan-16 11:16:48

Just report.
And pity them.

Thanks Atomik, I am in a bit of a menu rut grin

'Just post throw away curt messages and move on'

Umm, I think I might have been guilty of that before blush

DropYourSword Wed 06-Jan-16 11:22:21

I think I must have a different definition of troll TBH because it doesn't match with what * raxacoricofallapatorious* says

hownottofuckup Wed 06-Jan-16 11:22:25

The food board led me to the recipe for making doner kebab in the slow cooker. I will forever be grateful!

fidel1ne

I went and not only did my vague idea of making ice cream come to pass into actual, delicious ice cream (and one "will make you blind probably" disaster ice cream ... but that was my fault) but I came away all drunk on the (non ice creamed) milk of human friendly, helpful, funny loveliness that the board is soaked in.

I'll thinking of setting up a permenent camp there. It will mean I have to learn how to cook. But I consider this a silver lining. grin
