I have just tried to copy paste a pound sign and it comes out as PS too.

I entered the ASCII code for the pound (0163 on keypad) while holding down the ALT key. Got a pound sign on the typing screen. Pressed Preview buttong and yes, it's back to PS.

Explicit ASCII codes should work!
