I'm sure I can't be the only person who's done this. De-regged after the hacking, rejoined using a new email address. Email & mumsnet account both had fiendish passwords, neither of which I can remember.

I can't change the email in mumsnet & I can't get into the email to reset from there.

I can't log in on the laptop already, stuck on phone which affects my ability to type, so I made a new email address, haven't even got it logged on to MN yet & I've already forgotten that password too.

Any minute now we're going to have to re-login using an email address & I'm going to be locked out of MN completely....

My brain is hurting after reading that! Wink

Don't worry. Get yourself a ready email with a more straightforward password (although preferably not your pet's name and your birthday) and message [email protected] - who should be able to sort you out if you're in a fankle.

Best of luck Smile

Did you have a recovery e-mail address for the new e-mail address you rejoined with?

There is usually a way of resetting the password for an e-mail account if you have forgotten it.

Just write it on a post-it note & stick it to the fridge - a million times more secure than how MN store it.......

I'm OK as long as I never log out of this phone. Like you I created a dedicated MN email account of which I now have no recollection (I'm not even sure if it was Gmail or Windows Live) and no idea what my MN password is. I used to have the username "LassUnparalleled" and that got lost so came back as "ALassUnparalleled".

I might reappear as "AALassUnparalleled" (like tradesmen who are AARDVARK to be first on yellow pages)

Well blimey, logged out by mistake and to my surprise I had noted it all down in my address book of passwords!

I only changed my password after the hacking (I wasn't on the list) not my email address. I've never name changed anyway. I store my passwords on an app on my phone.

Hi there OP. Just a note to say if it helps, you won't be forced to log out on Monday so if you're already logged in on this username, you'll still be able to get in. It will only be once you log out that it will become a problem. It sounds like you stay logged in mostly (if you've forgotten your MN password for your current account) so it may never be a problem at all, but if you want to sort it properly do just drop us a line. Probably best to 'report' one of your own posts if you can't get into the email you're signed up with to contact us.

Have you tried writing the passwords in a notebook op? That would be a cheap solution.

I have written a short story on my phone. Some sentences have username, site and password hints, some sentences don't. It's a very bad short story, but the hints in the relevant sentences are strong enough that my memory is jogged. It is meaningless to anyone else.

For instance "I gave the boy a piece of fruit" would be for my Apple ID, the boy would point to the email address I use for it, and 'gave' would remind me of the password.

(Needless to say, that sentence doesn't occur in my story, nor one like it, but you get the idea.)

Iona - I have just been logged out without me doing anything.

REALLY nervous of being logged out when I haven't asked it to!

Happily I now have an email address just for mn, but I still feel wary!

Mind you, not so good with these new passwords we need to use, the ones with caps, numbers instead of letters etc.
