Partic AIBU ones

Anyway listen to this ramble and whaddya think:

I know we have a Christmas Topic and a very fine thing that is, too
I know we don't always post Christmas stuff in the Christmas Topic, tut tut

Soooo - How about making a subtopic: Christmas AIBU.

That way the folks who have already hidden Christmas can continue to not be mithered

Ta dahhhhhh

See, told you it was a light bulb moment

It's a cracker (of an idea).

So keep Am I Being Unseasonable as a permanent fixture rather than just for December?

I like it. You should be prime minister.

I thought you were going to say a filter in the titles that would whisk it out just like that...

Report
LaurieFairyCake · 16/08/2015 09:07

It's a great idea

That way people can see that a lot of them centre around the same theme - bad presents/inlaws being demanding/pressure to be Mary fucking Christmas Poppins on women

Why do you need to even mention Christmas before, say, mid-Nov? I get that you love the festive season but it's far more enjoyable if you don't start harping on about it whilst it's still summer. Celebrate Autumn too Grin

There is a Christmas topic. But if people have a AIBU that relates to Christmas they put it in AIBU.

This doesn't offend me as I feel it's a legitimate AIBU if someone's DM is demanding she comes to the ops for Xmas and is bringing seven maiden aunts who'll expect beds and to be fully catered for even if the op will be birthing triplets that week and her dh is on call as he's Batman (they live in Gotham so as not to drip feed). And DM has threatened to burn down their street and kidnap their dog if they say no.

I think posting that in June is fine, personally.

But you'll get plenty of posters losing their shit and saying come back and post this in November.

(On a serious note, for the bereaved or people in tough relationships a Xmas AIBU can be easily hidden so they don't have to suffer emotionally throughout the year as well as during the holiday season).

Fiderer · 16/08/2015 10:00

I'd celebrate that. Donk for PM. Though I fear the offenders will still use the usual AIBU as they didn't know/didn't see/posting here for more traffic... Hmm

And I do think you should be "The Donk" as in "The Donk will see you now." "The Donk is on the phone to the UN."

"The Donk is now trying some moves John Travolta-stylee whilst humming Night Fever oooooh we know how to do it"

Ahem

Any further thoughts on this puhrlease?

Hello OP,

We will present Christmas AIBU to the topic committee for their consideration and let you know what they say.

Xmas Smile

ClashCityRocker · 16/08/2015 16:52

People post in AIBU for traffic, though.

The christmas board doesn't get a lot of traffic in August which is why people post in aibu. I suspect a christmas aibu would be the same.

Thank you Becky.

A Christmas AIBU could be easily swept into Christmas AIBU by HQ, Clashy. Iyswim.

Agree with Clash - people post a lot in AIBU that are about other topics, most AIBU could be put elsewhere, but it's only the Christmas ones that get "there is a Christmas topic you know" responses - I've read AIBUs that could be in relationships, legal, education, step parenting, travel etc, but the only time someone's told to repost in the specific topic for those is if they think the OP would get a more sympathic response, not because they are annoyed that someone's talked about their MIL relationship in AIBU, not relationships.

Plus the Christmas topic is full of people who love all things Christmassy, many AIBUs about Christmas are by people who don't really love Christmas that much, and want a broad spectrum of responses. You don't get that in Christmas, you get the people who think Elf on the Shelf sounds fun and not at all hard work. Wink

Any thoughts? Everything fell over in Aug because of J E F F R Y so this kinda slid off the Plate of Consideration I'll warrant.

Brill idea. Donk, you can have pride of place on my tree like the star you are. You can be an angel instead if you like? At the moment we have some sort of constipated zombie affair. DD made it in reception and I'm morally obliged to display it atop the tree.

It would be a fabulous way of dealing with all the HOW MUCH do you fecking spend, why the fuck is my MIL insisting on being fed again this year, I hate elves on shelves stuff which doesn't fit in the glittery, homely, cosy joy that is the Christmas Topic Proper.

Trouble is, you still have people who will post exclusively in AIBU, convinced that their need to whinge on trumps everybody else's right to have the boards conducted in an orderly fashion.

You are not being unseasonable at all. Do it HQ.

Constipated zombie angel treetopper sounds AMAZE. Ours is a hideously misshapen copper coloured cardboard star cut by youngest at preschool. Over a decade old. I LONG nay YEARN for tasteful matchy matchy trees. Ho hum.

Tasteful matchy matchy trees? Nah. They're for people who clean out the fluff filter on the washing machine. Strange creatures.

Our constipated zombie looks down with disdain on a cock-eyed Santa and three creepy fellows who claim to be ex-robins but are a mac away from flasher. IMHO.

Have HQ got back to you at all about this? I asked for a sex topic and it only took 5 years or so for them to create one. So you can pencil in Christmas AIBU for 2020, the year of the hoverboard.

Report
DonkeyOaty · 30/10/2015 17:48

Arf!

Well well well yes HQ have put the Xmas AIBU back on the plate to take to the Topic Committee (the plate was dressed in actual Topic bars, in my dreams; y'know, they've got a hazelnut in every bite. NO NO NO not squirrel shite) and we'll hear in due course. Which is jolly good isn't it?

Got a problem, or a suggestion?
Bring it to (beat's rest) HQs attention

Smooth yeah

Topics. Oh good heavens, I haven't had a Topic for years. My grandma's elderly neighbour used to buy them for me when I were a lass and all round here was nowt but fields. Have they gone the way of Curly Wurlys and shrunk to a fraction of their original size? I just haven't seen a Topic recently. Or a Double Decker. They weren't fashionable, were they? Either of them.

Let me know if you need a festive placard to support your Christmas AIBU cause and I'll get out my fir cones and spray paint from the craft box. Might even daub a constipated angel on it for you.

I still reckon we should have a one in/one out topic policy. Shall we offer something up as a sacrifice? Good Housekeeping. Who cares?

In my new world order we shall have the following topics:

Wittering
Bollocks
Serious Stuff
Christmas
Christmas AIBU
Whimsy
Gripes
WTF
Anything child related

We don't really need anything else.
