Site outage update

Hi everyone,

First and foremost: sorry for the loss of usual service over the last few hours.

To explain what's been going on: shortly after 10pm last night, we started receiving a large amount of spurious (i.e. automatic, rather than human) traffic. This is known in the trade as a denial of service attack: one in which a person, or organisation, deliberately floods a website with requests for pages, with the intention of overwhelming its servers and preventing bona fide users from accessing the site.

It goes without saying that we're doing everything we can to repel borders and keep the site up and running. We'll post on our social channels with any further updates (we're over here on Facebook and Twitter, if you don't follow us already), and in the meantime, thanks, as usual, for bearing with us.

MNHQ

That knob on twitter is implying he has so much data in his hands, is that just talk or could they have gained some info?

HowDdo2You · 12/08/2015 11:07

I wonder what information they wanted?

Thanks for the update. Is it likely to happen again? I need to make plans to avoid further enforced RL interaction Grin

That guys twitter page is a bit sinister.... I don't understand why they can be bothered though? Was there nothing on tv last night? Did their xbox break?

Thanks Rebecca. I trust that you've laid in large stores of gin for Tech? It sounds as if they might need it.

He did it if he did indeed do it because women having space on the internet is anathema to a certain sort of men.

MNHQ, can you confirm or deny the data mining allegations please? I need to take steps to secure borders if they have.
