bloody pop up banners that refuse to go away are back

In places like chat. You close them once. You read a thread. Back to the list of threads, and the banner is back. Repeatedly.

Every few months this happens, then it goes away for a bit, then comes back..

It's really irritating, as it gets in the way of natural reading when you keep having to go off and close the stupid thing, only for it to keep reappearing next time you go back to that page.

Hi RunAwayHome. Sorry about this. Could we ask is it a Mumsnet type banner that's doing this or is it an ad pop up? If you have a screengrab that would be really helpful but we'll try and work out what's going on anyway.

It's a flashing ad pop up. Telling you you have a couple of messages and quite hard to ignore.

This is really annoying, I've already clicked on it a couple of times accidentally.

I didn't give it chance to fully load, closed the new tab too quickly.

Hi all, just letting you know that our Tech team are on the case. We'll report back as soon as we have some news.

In the meantime, we're sorry. Sad

Sorry, just saw this now.

It was a Mumsnet type banner for me, advertising a thread or an article or something, I didn't really read it too carefully as I was too busy trying to get rid of it!

It's the same sort of thing that happens every few months - they slide across the bottom of the screen, and have an 'x' to close them, but they don't stay closed. Every time you go back to that page, the banner comes back.

The flashing you've got a message one. I've moved over to android from iPhone and it's started :(

I think those ones are there on purpose OP.

Yes, they are there on purpose - but you are supposed to be able to close them with the little 'x' in the corner, as they cover part of the screen. My problem is that they repeatedly come back after they are closed, the same banner, as soon as I go back to the list of topics.

(that said, I haven't had them for a day or two now, so whatever tech is doing, it's working!).

I've had it too with the mumsnet banners

I have it too with Mumsnet banners but I don't have an X to close them anymore either.

And.... they're back again today. After several days without, today they've started appearing again. (Mumsnet banners, adds for cinsperation or something like that). I don't mind them appearing once (well, I do really, they're extremely annoying and get in the way, but I understand that there has to be some paid advertising somewhere), but it's so annoying that you can never get them to go away permanently. No matter how many times you click on the stupid 'x' , they still come back the next time you are on that list of topics.

They're back yet again.

Banners about e.g., Guest Posts, that pop up in the lower left corner. You click the cross the make them go away, then go to a new page, and the very same one pops up. Over and over.

Firefox, Mac.
