In places like chat. You close them once. You read a thread. Back to the list of threads, and the banner is back. Repeatedly.

Every few months this happens, then it goes away for a bit, then comes back..

It's really irritating, as it gets in the way of natural reading when you keep having to go off and close the stupid thing, only for it to keep reappearing next time you go back to that page.

<pops up>
Hi RunAwayHome. Sorry about this. Could we ask is it a Mumsnet type banner that's doing this or is it an ad pop up? If you have a screengrab that would be really helpful but we'll try and work out what's going on anyway.

It's a flashing ad pop up. Telling you you have a couple of messages and quite hard to ignore.

PookBob Sat 01-Aug-15 17:37:02

This is really annoying, I've already clicked on it a couple of times accidentally.

gamerchick Sat 01-Aug-15 18:15:36

What's it mimicking? I got caught by the Facebook one but I only use Facebook.

I didn't give it chance to fully load, closed the new tab too quickly.

Hi all, just letting you know that our Tech team are on the case. We'll report back as soon as we have some news.

In the meantime, we're sorry. sad

RunAwayHome Sun 02-Aug-15 17:08:08

Sorry, just saw this now.

It was a Mumsnet type banner for me, advertising a thread or an article or something, I didn't really read it too carefully as I was too busy trying to get rid of it!

It's the same sort of thing that happens every few months - they slide across the bottom of the screen, and have an 'x' to close them, but they don't stay closed. Every time you go back to that page, the banner comes back.

Is this the same thing? Blimmin horrible.

LongDistanceLove Sun 02-Aug-15 19:54:44

The flashing you've got a message one. I've moved over to android from iPhone and it's started sad

gamerchick Sun 02-Aug-15 20:02:41

I think those ones are there on purpose OP.

RunAwayHome Mon 03-Aug-15 10:01:40

Yes, they are there on purpose - but you are supposed to be able to close them with the little 'x' in the corner, as they cover part of the screen. My problem is that they repeatedly come back after they are closed, the same banner, as soon as I go back to the list of topics.

(that said, I haven't had them for a day or two now, so whatever tech is doing, it's working!).

I'm getting fake message inboxes appearing at the top of my screen

AlbrechtDurer Wed 05-Aug-15 08:06:21

Yes, I have the fake message alerts too (Android user)

Hi everyone - the tech team responsible for ad operations are looking into this now. Thanks for posting.

Wishful80smontage Thu 06-Aug-15 12:04:33

I've had it too with the mumsnet banners

YouMakeMyDreams Thu 06-Aug-15 12:10:19

I have it too with Mumsnet banners but I don't have an X to close them anymore either.

RunAwayHome Tue 11-Aug-15 14:32:27

And.... they're back again today. After several days without, today they've started appearing again. (Mumsnet banners, adds for cinsperation or something like that). I don't mind them appearing once (well, I do really, they're extremely annoying and get in the way, but I understand that there has to be some paid advertising somewhere), but it's so annoying that you can never get them to go away permanently. No matter how many times you click on the stupid 'x' , they still come back the next time you are on that list of topics.

RunAwayHome Fri 04-Dec-15 09:42:53

They're back yet again.

Banners about e.g., Guest Posts, that pop up in the lower left corner. You click the cross the make them go away, then go to a new page, and the very same one pops up. Over and over.
