In the interest of restoring harmony, do you think it's time to tidy up the political threads?

As a rule I generally don't care where people choose to post.

But since Chat and AIBU are riddled with political threads that tend to start the mother of all bun fights, does anyone think HQ should move them to the Politics topic now?

This way, if people still want to post on them they can, but peace and harmony might be restored to the rest of MN?

It's doing a lot of people's heads in. Even some of the posters on those threads are probably sick of getting drawn into them, but it's hard not to when there's so much goading going on.

I vote a big fat YES PLEASE!! It is getting beyond ridiculous now. They keep popping up but are all actually exactly the same.

Chat is ephemeral, so I don't think should be transferred to a permanent forum.

Moving all the others? Well, I'd like to see it happen. Just as I wanted to see baby threads moved to The Royal Family. Both to corral them a bit, and also so people might find it easier to see which angles were already running rather than starting Yet Another duplicate, and also to encourage the use of topics a bit.

They said 'no' about the Royal Family on a general basis that 'we're over the worst' so no need anymore. Which applies to this too.

I'd like to see greater use of topics, and MN sweeping up gluts (just like they did for Ebola)

But Worra nearly every thread in Politics ends up with certain posters writing long, repetitive epics and killing the threads stone dead.

Yeah the royal family stuff did get really boring and there were a few bun fights

But nothing on this level.

I'm actually feeling really sorry for some posters because I can see they're getting sucked in, and probably wouldn't so much if the threads were moved to politics.

I wasn't here for the last election either, but I've never seen MN this disjointed and angry from so many different angles.

No I wasn't here the last time thank goodness. Is everyone commenting on every thread? there's only so many times you can say the same thing.

People are saying 'ah yes but people are upset' etc but they don't have to be upset on every single thread, or as seems to be happening start their own thread to be upset on.

They are upset because they care.

Why would you stop that?

Comments/threads can be reported - why doing the bit tidy up and pretend MN doesn't have bun fights?

That's the thing. I don't think some people want to be upset on every thread but then they see a goady fucker post, and they can't stop themselves.

There are some normally nice, rational, lovely posters flinging some awful vitriol around and for some of them it's pretty out of character.

There are too many people joining just to stir things up.

MN is a completely different website to what it was at the last election.

I think it's great to see some political discussion. It's obviously very topical at the moment. It will calm down in a few days. I don't care if they are moved or not really. Why can't you just ignore what you are not interested in?

Yes they're upset, yes they care, but there are tons of repetitive threads saying exactly the same thing, and quite frankly many people are pig sick of it.

If ever there was a time for HQ to insist people use the correct topic, I'd say it's around about now.

No it was crazy in the run up and during, but civilised. (Excluding Hullygully and her gun). Afterward their was a LOT of discussion about possible policies and concerns. But it was discussion.

I think the pp is correct, mn is not the same site any longer.

I certainly know that after many years posting I'm not welcome on here, not due to my political preference but other factors, which is quite disappointing.

It was very different after the last election. Nowhere near the hostility and a lot more general, civilised chat, from people across the political spectrum, about the logistics of coalition.

Thing is, I think this is a true reflection of RL conversations.

Yesterday, I went to work, them helped at school, did a school run, spoke to DH and then went out with friends.

90% of my conversations were about politics. Some heated. DH even swore.

I think Mumsnet is just reflected what is happening in the real world.

I can't understand why new threads are popping up even now, I understood yesterday may have been the day.
I haven't had any RL conversations about it other than with DH when the result was announced.

Little of it is discussion, sadly. A great deal of it is flinging accusations at others, at best and at worst, being really vitriolic & descending to personal attack.

I enjoy a good debate but very few of the many threads are really debate.

I think MNHQ have been remiss in not sorting this out.

I know they will be along to tell us to report & that they will delete if necessary but things have got beyond that now.

Yes but sunny, in RL people don't hide anonymously whilst slagging people off in such a vitriolic way, for putting an X in a different box to them.

The majority of political discussions on here, certainly don't reflect what I hear in RL.

Without anonymity, people tend to be more responsible when choosing their language.

Worra, I have always though that, and you'd think that mn getting bigger would mean that. But I've read the political threads and realised that both Labour and Conservatives don't like my "sort". At least that's something they have in common

Buts sunny, did you have people jumping in yelling "it's democracy, get over it, you whinging leftie!" every time someone expressed concerns about the future, or calling people heartless bastards for voting them in?
