Thanks Worra - I didn't know about the possible 6 months thing although there is possibly an issue about the firm also providing under 6 month follow on and the advert had a button to click to find out more. (Which I didn't click.)

I thought that bar across the top has ads supplied by what you've been looking at on line. So if you click on a link on a Boden thread, you risk hideous tunics for several days.

I don't know about that for banner ads, Auntie - but I certainly haven't been looking for anything connected with that firm or that type of product. (I think you're absolutely right about other advertising sections on the page.)

And when you think about it, it wouldn't make sense for every advertising opportunity on the pages to reflect existing specific interests only - manufacturers would surely want to present at least some new concepts or items?

There's no such thing as a "follow on" milk for babies under six months. The entire point of follow on milk is that it's marketed for babies aged 6+ months and can be advertised, unlike first milks.

It's legal to advertise it.

However, Justine has said that it's MN policy not to carry advertising for certain items (see the thread Worra linked) and follow on milk is one she said MN will not have.

Follow on milk is not necessary and just exploits a legal loop hole allowing formula companies to advertise.

It is legal for follow on milk to be advertised but it's on the list of ads mumsnet don't want.

I'm not so sure about that, Auntie - I had rather thought form a quick look see that the manufacturer in question was advertising a pre-6 month follow-on on its site. (I'll stand to be corrected on that one because the site wanted me to start agreeing to things to continue and that's something I generally have a disinclination to do.)

Our Tech team have confirmed this ad shouldn't be on the site - they've (hopefully!) blocked the source of it now.
